C-section with Spinal Block

Has anyone had a C-section with a spinal? I'm scheduled to have one at the end of June and Im a bit nervous about what it will feel like. Ive heard it numbs you from the chest down..does this make it harder to breathe?
Please, someone tell me Im worrying for nothing! Thanks!

hi! I had a c-section with a spinal block. They didn't give me the option of an epidural...I wish now that they would have if it was possible. The spinal block itself wasn't painful and it was very effective pain relief but I was numb from the neck down. It was a strange feeling...especially after delivery when they moved me onto a gurney(sp?).... I felt like I was just a floating head. My OH was with me so kind of put the baby in my arms although I couldn't feel her or hold her as i couldn't move my arms. Recovery was okay....but i retained a lot....I mean a lot of fluid....I left the hospital and hadn't lost any weight!! But I lost about 20 pounds in the 2weeks to follow. Not sure if that was the effect od the spinal or just my body's reaction to the surgery. Anyway....it wasn't a bad experience but if I have to do it again I would request just an epidural if it's allowed. Hope all goes well for you...I would take any means necessary to get the baby out happy and healthy, even if it's not ideal.

Hi,
I had a spinal block for my c-section, it was absolutely fine! It numbed me upto just below my boobs, and having it put in was nothing like I thought it was, not painful at all, and I dont even know what I was worrying for! It didnt affect my breathing or arms in anyway what so ever, but I do know that sometimes, some ladies blocks go higher than others, although I am not too sure what the reason for this is.
Overall, it was a great experience, and if I have to have one again this time then I am not the slightest bit bothered

I had a similar experience to morag99 - numb from under the boobs down, but I was able to move fairly soon afterwards - sit up etc. It was fine having it put in too. Good luck!

I had a spinal for my c-section and I would describe it as an odd sensation.

Be prepared - feeling came back in one leg really quickly and about half an hour later for my other. Recovery nurse said this is very common.

I was able to try breastfeeding in recovery and up fairly quickly after.

Good luck - I promise it will be worth it!

I wouldn't worry - I had one last PG and it was fine.

They tell you, it may feel like you can't or aren't breathing - but you are. It just feels funny.

Best wishes
