OT- Need help re: laminate flooring- any joiners out there??

i dont know if anyone saw the little rant i had the other day about my laminate flooring- but the gist is i ordered a laminate floor for the living room and found it was too difficult to fit. i asked a handyman to come and give a quote which he did (£150 to do the job). He seemed ok but said that it would have to be laid widthways instead of lengthways due to the long length of the room (30ft by 13ft, its a big through room), he basically implied the laminate wasnt strong enough to withstand the length needed and would bow. but i really want it laid lengthways i think its alot nicer... is this man just trying to b** shit me??

Not sure if he is trying to BS you, but we did our laminate throughout our house lengthwise in every room, and none of has bowed... We didnt go for the super expensive stuff, nor the cheap cheap stuff, just standard middle grade laminate, and no issues.

oh ok, is ur floor as long as that? i mean every laminate floor ive ever seen is laid lengthways, so i was a bit surprised when he said it'd have to be widthways. ours is quite cheap but it was reduced... its from wickes and i think its good quality.

my husband is a genius with wood lol. He said look on the pack, u r supposed to lay some laminates lengthways to the window of the room. So if it says on the pack to lay it lengthways along the window wall then thats how its supposed to be done. I think your handy man is being honest with you, i dont c y he would bs u. X

Our master where we put laminate is approximately 25 feet long, so not quite 30..

lilwelsh1 it says lay floor in the direction of the light source, to me that means long ways if the window is at the end of the long room??

So long as you have sturdy underlay, either should be fine x

yeah thats right. So your handyman is mis-informed. I think he's trying to make life easier for himself maybe? 30ft is a long room lol.

He'd actually be doing more work laying it width ways as he would have more cuts to make.

My husband doesn't think there should be a problem with laying it lengthways, he's a carpenter. £150 is quite reasonable though, but only if they are doing it the way you want it x
