What should your iron levels be??

When i went for my MW appointment on tues she checked my blood results that i'd had done at 28 weeks. She said my iron was low at 10.9 and i needed iron tablets. So im now on 3 iron tablets per day. Anyone know what normal iron levels should be? xx

hi hun, i had this too so I can tell you the following:

HB should read between 11.5 - 16.5 (this is normal range) which is the indication of low iron = aneamia. Mine recored at 10.4 (lower than yours) and I was told I was boarderline aneamic and am now on 1 200mg tablet a day. My mw said i didnt need to take multiple pills as this should be sufficient and she didnt want to make any constipation issues any worse.

Hope it helps xx

Oh so im not too low really then. Although the bloods were taken 6 weeks ago, so it could have gotten lower or improved in that time.

I think i've been told to take too many really. Might just take 1 or 2. xx

well if it makes you feel better, my mw was adament that 1 was more than enough and even then i dont have to take it everyday, only when I'm feeling very exhausted.

She did ask me had I been feeling tired lately and I was like 'well my sleeping is terrible, I work full time, I'm heavily pg and i still do 99% of the cleaning/cooking indoors. Of course I'm tired, its a normal part of pregnancy isnt it?' x

My MW asked me if i was feeling tired. I was around the time i had the bloods done. But the last 4 weeks ive really got my nesting energy. So maybe my iron levels improved in those 6 weeks. I did tell her this but she still wanted me to take the tabs. xx
