What's the chances of a first sweep being successful?

I have one booked for next Wednesday if I haven't had LO by then but midwife thinks I won't need it. I will be 39+5.
Baby is fully engaged and measuring a couple of weeks ahead.
I haven't had any internals yet so I don't know if I'm effaced/favourable but am I right in assuming that if I'm fully engaged I must be even slightly effaced?

Has anyone got any positive first sweep experiences from my gestation? x

I had a lot happen after my first sweep, but no baby. I lost plug almost every day for a week, back cramps, front cramps, loose poos 3 times a day... Second sweep failed too. What I've heard is that if it doesn't work in 2-3 days, then it probably won't. Hopefully it works for you!

I know this might sound stupid but what should I wear when I go for my sweep?
I've never had doctors poking around "down there" should I wear a dress so maybe I can keep some dignity or just trousers? lol
I've always wore a top and trousers for midwife appointments as I've felt weird about lifting my dress up for the heartbeat and measurements lol

well my midwife made me feel at ease i just took my trousers and knickers off then she put my trousers over my bits why she measured baby etc... i feel comfortable as me and my midwife get on really well... bless her she even put my jeans in the right way for me why i got comfortable on the bed. i guess i wanted the sweep so bad trying to get things started thats all i was worried about lol!

since having my sweep yestaday been losing lots of plug all day today back and front cramping period like pain and bad back just feel alittle off! fingers crossed to us all hopefully get to meet our beautiful babies very soon! xxx

Well I was thinking I would wear a dress but didn't in the end. I wore legging both times, last week I took everything of and she covered me with a blanket but today I had a different mw and she said Just take one leg out so I had my leggings and pants around one of my ankles lol and no blanket just a useless did of paper lol!! No dignity when you are pregnant lol...

Because my BP was creeping up, they gave me a sweep at 38+2, and all it did was cause me to bleed and lose some yucky stuff - so take a pad! I didn't have one

But, you never know! Not sure if engagement has anything to do with being effaced, sorry hun. . .

Thanks for all your advice.

Is effacement the same thing as being "favourable"?
