I was just taking a shower and inserted my finger in my vagina and about 3 inches up or so I felt something I never felt before... it was some other kind of opening -- just barely could get the tip of my finger. Is that my cervix? Is it supposed to be like that? It definetly felt like a hole inside my vagina... Before the shower I noticed a piece of ooey-gooey discharge that was white/clear in color and felt kinda like a big wet booger (sorry for tmi !).
I have been getting light cramps in the lower part of my stomach and also have been taking poops daily for the past few days that aren't diarrhea like but definetly feel like they clean me out.
I just had a sonogram 3 days ago and they said everything looked normal on the screen.
I'm worried that these are signs of pre-term labor though? I'm not even at 33 weeks yet! Would the baby even survive
First... yes the baby would very likely survive with a little time in the nicu. Lots of babies are born at 32 weeks and do well.
It sounds a lot like your cervix is open some... I wouldn't do anymore self checks... due to risk of infection, but I would call my doc, if you lost whatvsounds a little like some of your plug, labor could be around the corner and doc will likely wanna see you. I'd call l&d and get checked out.
I would still call... just in case.... you never know, they may want you to stay in bed to prevent further dialation, since at this point they would do anything they could, including meds to stop labor, since that's best for baby.
Well my doctor is not in today and I don't really wanna call in an emergency for this.. it's so early. I feel fine this morning - am not checking myself anymore but feeling OK nothign else seems to be going on so I think I'll just wait to see her on Monday -- only 1-2 days away..
My cervix has never fully closed from the outside (what we can feel).
I've always been able to put my finger tip in it if I was so inclined.
Used to scare me a lot in the beginning but had dr do pelvic exam and she said I was sealed shut lol.
She explained it like a tube with lips lol, you have the entrance feel which sometimes feels closed and other times doesn't, heat and how tired muscles are will effect this.
Then the actual closed part is a little bit deeper and we can't touch that.
Some women feel closed like knut but others like me will always feel like we are a cm open when in fact we are not.
Hope I made sense, she explained it too me much better!
I've had the snot thing to a few times since I got pregnant.
Dr said it's either a build up of oestrogen or a bit of my mucus plug coming away (it's regenerative) but if I see any blood or other colours in it to come in straight away (never had any blood in it though).
Makes it seem so pointless when we check out cervix though as we have no clue what we are doing and how deep the lips are doesn't correlate to open/closed status of cervix.
Just a quick update. I went to the doctor today and she examined me - she confirmed that the cervix is closed but said it is very low and she said im at high risk for preterm labor. She put me on bed rest. So I am working from home starting today - hopefully I can make it to at least 36-37 weeks.
