Growth Scan???

Hi Ladies,

My Dr has booked me in for a growth scan at 32 weeks, I am not sure if this is routine or not? I dont think it is in the UK?

She is on leave until next week so I am unable to get any answers from the others at the hospital. My OB is british but the hospital is under american management ..... so just trying to make sense if its routine in the U.S... or if she could be doing the scan for another reason...

Any info on if you had growth scan and why would be helpful ... Thanks

Is this your first baby?? Or have you had a larger baby before?? When youve seen the Mw is your bump measuring to dates? Do you have GD or any other medical reason why you could have a bigger baby??

I have a growth scan booked for the 20th due to me having gest diabetes, my baby so far seems to be growing to dates but they just want to check, I think they also check fluid levels and placement of the placenta at those scans too.

I wouldn't worry about it, enjoy seeing your baby again ((hugs))

It'd help to get info on previous pregnancies have you had a previous small baby? Do you have diabetes?

I had a previous small baby and this is why I'm getting growth scans, and you are right, they are not routine in the uk.

Yes this is our first baby , had gd test and came back negative I think the fundal (?!) height is larger than she expected as last couple of appointments she has commented on the growth.... ? I have gone from 8.5 stone to just over 11stone so not sure that has anything to do with it hmmm We shall see I suppose ....

It will probably be because of your fundal height measurement, they probably think you having a big baby!
The fundal height Is unreliable as it can change with amount of fluid, position of baby or which midwife measures it as they may all measure slightly different.
My fundal height is spot on for dates but my baby is measuring 3 weeks ahead on scan.

Your fundal height will be why they want you to have a scan, as the pp said measuring the fundal height is unreliable as this height can be effected by baby's position and also how much fluid you are carrying. Your weight gain isn't an issue, they're just checking your baby's size so they can manage your pregnancy and delivery xxx don't be worried xxx
