US ladies! Can you request a C-sec?

So I just had surgery yesterday morning, was feeling pretty bad the last 2 weeks, turns out I had a really infected appendix and it was removed yesterday morning at 4am. Happy New Years to me!

Anywho, I'm already 2 cm dialated and... something percent effaced, can't remember what, excuse me, lol. However, No one thinks this child will wait, and neither do I, but even if he does, I just had surgery and my due date is like in a month. I just do not feel comfortable pushing my baby out even if I'm healed.

So short story, can I request a section?
I don't want to do a major surgery but I'm just way too paranoid now to push.
..still might, but I just want to know what my options are.

Yes. With my first son, I chose an elective C-section. What was funny about it was, the reason I did it was because I had become so tired of being pregnant and I wasn't dialating, my cervix was still thick and turned upward and it just didn't seem like he was coming. I was scheduled at 8am on January 14th, 2005 for c-section, I went in labor 2am that same morning on my own BUT ending up having an emergency c-section because the cord was wrapped around his neck.

I'm just scared to tell my MW this on wednesday and have her like completely shut me off.
Like they know better than what I do, it's a scary situation for me now, was NOT expecting for my pregnancy to take such a turn.

Your body, your choice. I have a midwife who is part of a practice with OB's so I don't think there would be an issue with her disapproving or dragging her feet. Do you have easy access to an OB so you can talk about the issues and concerns. I would be nervous of pushing too after just having surgery!

She's also a part of my OB's office. My OB is just as much as a "vaginal is the way to go" kind of person as she is.
.. almost to the point where I don't even want to bring it up, but I'm going to. Hopefully they just don't shut me off because then I might have to get really angry.

That is the nice thing about the US medical system... you can find another OB super easy if you don't like the way your current one treats your fears! Did they say there may be issues of pushing the baby out soon after the surgery? I would be worried about ripping a stitch or something!

Nope, just sorta got this dealt with, and probably wanted to discuss delivery when I recovered. But hopefully I'll be healed, I just don't think I'll do it now because it's too scary to me now.

I asked, well, BEGGED my doctor for one, but he said no b/c recovery (as per him) would be more difficult for me. I was gutted to say the least...but I trust him and really like him so I didn't push it.

Your reasoning makes complete sense to me. You're probably really sore. I couldn't imagine pushing after surgery. I'd request it and listen to the pros and cons each way and weigh out your decision.

If you're determined, put a request in writing stating your reasons and ask that it be included in your medical records. For liability reasons I would think that would be enough to get any doctor to go ahead and do the surgery. Because if they didn't and you had issues come up, there would be a clear path to a malpractice lawsuit.

Not that I advocate rampant lawsuits, but if it's what you really want there's probably a fairly clear path to get there.
