Latent labour??

Just wondering if any of you ladies have/are experiencing this, and how long it lasted for before 'real' labour kicked in?

I had my 38 week MW appointment today and when I told her about my symptoms she told me I was in latent labour but that they have no way of knowing how long this will last. I have 10 days to go until due date and LO is 3/5 engaged. What are my chances of getting to meet my LO early??

Thanks narla, hope you don't have to wait much longer!!

Ashley I've had loads of BH for a few days now along with my back and bump aching. Yesterday I had about an hour of contractions before they stopped. Also had the general not feeling great, clearing out etc. midwives in my area don't check to see if you are dilated at all so I have no idea about that.

I was quite happy before I had all these symptoms to plod along until LO was ready to make an appearance, but really don't want to go through weeks of this and not knowing when anything real will happen!

Oooh. Well in that case, sorry to tell you, but yes, latent labour can go on for hrs, days or even weeks. I can sympathise though, I think I've been like that for a couple days now, I haven't seen my midwife so who knows. FX things get moving quickly!!

Thanks Ashley. I'm hoping it's not too long. I have to go back on Friday and again on Monday as my blood pressure is quite high too. Hoping they will maybe give me a sweep or something to hurry things along if she is still in there by then!! Your due just a few days before me, hopefully you don't have too much longer to wait either! Xx

I think that's the worst part of it for me lovely, im usually a very organised person and not liking this not knowing. Trying to stay very relaxed about it all as I've heard this can help. Can't decide if it's a good or bad thing I don't know if I'm dialted at all or not, I would like to know, but I'd be gutted if they told me I'm not at all!!

I've been so good up until now, haven't been trying anything to bring labour on, but knowing this is the early start and not knowing when it's going to step up a gear is killing me!!

I've been in latent since the 6th, so about 12 days. Constant contractions since then, but still not real labor. They are inducing me tomorrow at 39 weeks. xx

Oh that sounds awful! At least you know you don't have much longer to go now. I'm going back to get checked tomorrow as my blood pressure was quite high, and they want me in on Monday too. I wonder if they will maybe do a sweep or something on Monday as I'll be 39+2 then and where I am they offer the first between 39 and 40, so I'm hoping that's what will happen to try and move things along a bit!!

Good luck for tomorrow, I hope it all goes well for you!
