Watching OBEM last night freaked me out..

So... i thought i was pretty calm about the labour (almost 10 weeks away, if on time that is) saying that this is my 2nd time and i know what to expect but watching OBEM last night gave me a mini anxiety attack and really freaked me out..

My 1st labour wasnt too bad .... DS was back to back and was in labour for 45 hours so a bit long and painful but i had a epidural at 5-6 cm so i didnt feel that 'burning ring of god damned fire' that im terrifed of...

Gave my bump a stern talking too last nght and told her that just becuase those babies on the telly were try to kill their mummies that she didnt have to copy and to be nice.... lets hope she listened.

haha any one else having a little panic on.
xx

I haven't watched last nights yet, will watch later but last weeks scared me!

My last baby was 9lbs 10ozs and although my birth was fine with problems I'm terrified of this one being bigger or just not as easy And when that baby got stuck last week, omg I was crying

It all seems so much more dramatic this series!

xx

I don't think I'll be watching any more until this LO comes as it's just to tramatic for me! I'm relaxed and looking forward to labour starting as I just want my baby here, but last night's episode did nothing for my confidence and now I'm feeling a bit anxious about it all.

It has been quite scary this time I agree. Just know that everyone has different pain thresholds. I never even felt the ring of fire last time and I was on gas and air. Last night was the first time they've really focused on that bit, I can't remember it standing out like that for other ladies we've seen. Try not to worry x

I also meant to ask if anyone thinks the way the new series has been put together is different and dare I say it, not as good? I don't know if I'm making this up but I thought in past series there were a lot more births with one or two main birth stories thrown in each week. I'm getting a bit bored hearing too much of the background now, I just want to see the babies!

Hahaha MommyLoo, I hope your daughter listens to you! I might do the same with mine!! I must say, first time round and again this time, I've been really calm leading up to the birth, but OBEM is starting to scare me - it just brings it all flooding back and TBH I haven't really been able to remember much from the first time. I was only in labour 6.5hrs, had a nice birthing pool birth and my only real negative memory is saying to OH for days afterwards "you have no idea how much that hurt"..... But seeing that Indian lady last night in such pain really made me have flashes back to my labour. My OH has always said I'm mad to watch it when I'm about to go through it and I must say (& I HATE saying this), I think he may be right... It might be one to series link and watch whilst BFing!!!

Breathe deeply and remember the happy endings!!

X

So far I've not felt the same about this series as I have previous ones, not sure what it is about it though.

I guess we have to remember that its still a tv show and they will always show what makes good tv.
Like the part where the young girls FOB texts to say about getting a flat now, seriously this must have been put in just to stress people out (or am I a synic)

I'm not enjoying this series as much neither. Perhaps it will grow on us and we are just too used to the last hospital at the moment.

This is the first time I've watched OBEM and it's not freaked me out because it all seems a bit 'entertain-y' to me, makes me wonder how many low-stress births are on the cutting room floor to make space for all the screamers.

I have to agree with you, last week the woman thrashing around surely someone should have told her to calm down and bit more forcefully, she could easily have injured herself or one of the midwives. I've told DH to slap me if i start being stupid, getting yourself so worked up does nothing to help at all!

I do think they find the 'worse' ones to show otherwise people wouldn't watch it if it was straight forward.
