Well... for those that know me, I've been monitored pretty closely throughout my pregnancy for everything under the sun... anyway - went in for an ultrasound today - last scan showed baby at 65th percentile - which I thought was big... apparently she's now at the 95th percentile.. I'm only 32 weeks and they say she's already over 6lb....
Please can anyone share their stories - as I'm now getting super scared of how big this girl will actually be and if I will be able to deliver her,
I was 86% at 30 weeks...have another scan tomorrow so we'll see what it is now, but I fear i'll be riding in that boat with you! I just hope it's no indication of something wrong worried here...but on the plus side i hear over and over that larger babies are sometimes easier to push out my fear is being forced into a c-section :/
At my 34 week growth scan my boy was weighing in at 6pound 9oz, I am not sure what the percentile is, but there was a note with a margin of error which I think was around 2 pounds! I am absolutely terrified of having a big baby not because of labor but I had a 2pound baby last time, I don't want to go to the other extreme, I just want nice and healthy!
A work colleague of mine had a scan done with her last child and she was told yup you will certainly be having a 10pounder at birth and he weighed in overdue at 7pounds so lets hope that's the case here!!!!
The centile thing really annoys me as I think it casues unecessary worry when you don't fall bang on the 50th.
Yes, babies grow at a fairly predictable rate but they are all different shapes and sizes and moreover, predicting fetal weight on a scan is highly unreliable.
I was old my first baby was going to be 6lbs one week before delivery and he was 7lbs9ozs.
Try not to worry!!
Hi, please don't worry too much, growth scan can be very innacurate. I had one at 34 weeks with my last baby & was told he was over the 99th percentile and would be massive. I was told I would be induced by my due date as he'd be too big otherwise.
I was really worried that I was going to be having a 10lb+ baby (he was my 6th baby but my previous biggest was 7lbs 9oz!) I ended up going into labour early & he was born at exactly 36 weeks weighing 6lb 7oz, not quite the massive baby they'd told me! Even if he'd gone to 39 weeks (the longest any of my pregnancies have been) he'd have been about 8lbs, which is what I was expecting him to be!
Please try not to worry x
At both my 32 and 34 week scans I was measuring in the 98th percentile! My obs is not concerned at all and says it's prob down to genes and he also said that the measurements are not always accurate due to the way the baby is lying etc. So try not to worry about it.
My two midwives have each told me it's easier to push out a larger baby too - we'll wait and see! lol
I have another scan this afternoon so will see how he's measuring up then too.
