Im not sure what to do about maternity leave.Ive been reading that people seem to go on leave at about 8 months???
I have a very active stressfull job, very long shifts with no breaks/ lunch/ no sitting etc. are any of you girls in a similsr position? When are you going on maternity? im so knackered I just cant hack work any more but Im not going to get maternity pay either.
Whats normal for a non office type job??

Unfortunately I'm working up until the day I go into labor. To be honest, at this point, I'm not sure how I'm going to do it. Sitting down isn't really an option as I'm a Kindergarten teacher and have a group of children with lots of special needs. I'm finding that by the end of my work day my tummy is so hard, my back is killing me and I'm stressed beyond belief.

I think 4 weeks before due date is the "norm" I wish I had stayed until week 38ish.

My situation is I work in a not so active job and Im leaving at 38 weeks myself. I cant move around well anymore and Im pretty useless here. I work front desk at a hotel so I get to sit down most of the night but I dread having to clean a room if housekeeping forgets or moving a rollaway.

I want to be at home and if I am going to hurt from moving I want it to be because I've organized somethinig in my house not because housekeeping didn't make your bed.

My job is really unique in that I was constantly going up and down stairs for hours at a time, and my "breaks" were spent on my feet as well. It got to the point around 27 weeks where I was literally crying by the end of every shift because my hips/pelvis hurt so bad, and my boss practically BEGGED me to go on maternity leave early. So I did. And as bored and broke as I am now, it was just not worth being in that much pain. Plus with the stairs, I was always worrying that I'd trip. I think you just have to know your limit and call it quits when you reach it...not worry about what's "normal". I feel like had I stayed working even a few extra weeks, I'd be in crutches by now.

Still haven't left...working until I go into labor! I'm already on the schedule for next week as it looks like my little one isn't making an appearance anytime soon! I'm just hoping I don't go into labor at work as my co-workers will freak and it would be gross for my water to break as I'm making someones food!

I'm finding it difficult to focus.. I teach young adults.. Can't be bothered to deal with their crap anymore!!! My patience has gone. I'm too tired to chase h/wk lol
But I'll wait till I'm 35 wks just in time for Easter break. Oh, I use baby to keep them quiet by saying baby hears them being loud! It works lol

So looking forward to no Insets, no lesson planning and no attitude for 8 months!!! I think its best to carry on as far down as possible to have longer off. fundamentally put your health first...

Well I have a physical job working with preschool age children, but my job also involved alot of heavy lifting and moving heavy equipment around. I started my maternity leave at 30 weeks... Which is WAY earlier than I originally wanted, but I physically couldn't do it anymore. If I had stayed until my original date I wanted to finish I would have just finished on thursday gone. But I'm not sorry I finished early

XxX

I'm in healthcare and work 12 hour shifts. Being on my feet for 90% of the shift I plan on leaving at 36 weeks. Luckily I have weeks of vacation left so I technically won't be on mat leave until I'm 38 and a half weeks.

I could have worked up until I gave birth but I don't think it would be helpful for myself, co workers, and patients.

Maybe I will try the "shh baby hears you being loud" thing on my students. Unfortunately I have to get all of my lesson plans done before I go on maternity leave. Since I have no idea when I might go into labor I just have to plan out the rest of the year.

I'm like you though, I have absolutely NO PATIENCE! I feel like I'm failing as a teacher.
