St Michaels hospital, Bristol.

Has anybody delivered here? Or will be doing so? Just looking for some stories really. Not from around this area, only lived here a couple of years, so I don't know anyone personally who has had a baby in that hospital.

Well I'm in Weston, but as I have gestational diabetes I have to deliver in St.Michaels (most likely via induction at 38-39 weeks unless I go into labour before that time) Am 34 weeks today, which means only 4-5 weeks to go! Seems insane to think about!! Nice to see some "local" people x

Ok im prob the only person thts gonna say this but im also a bristol girl and i wouldt have my baby at st michaels...my SIL had her son there and didnt have a great time, her sister had a heart attack in labour because they let her birth so long with a heart condition...and now my Sil is in hospital again with her second an she has been leaking fluid for a week with an infection and they wont deliver the baby...Even telling her baby isnat risk of death with infection?

BUT all that being said i think you can have horror stories from any hospital hun so its all personal opinion...im having my son at Bath and have heard some right stories from there but i have no other choice i have also had some good feedback so like i said its all swings n roundabouts with them...

Hope i havent upset u hun, just thought id let u know my honest opinion xx

I refused to delivere there, spoken to alot of mothers that did and they said they were treated okay while in labour but a soon a baby was out, the just got left to it, had to change there own sheets on there beds and the MW were never around. i opted to go to weston super mare and they were AMAZING!!! Its a shame I have moved away, because i would love to go back!

I had my son in St. Michaels nearly 2 years ago. He was premature, but they still did their best to accommodate the sort of birth i wanted to the point that my MW barely left me and walked about behind me holding the monitors in place so that i could stay active as long as i wanted even though he needed constant monitoring
So the Delivery Suite i'd say the staff are fantastic, and the room was fine too. The ward the staff were a bit hit and miss, i has a horrible time the first night we were there as the MWs on duty were dreadful, abrupt and rude and treated me like an idiot and my son like something off a production line (he had to be intubated and they just shoved it in and started pouring formula down the tube, without really explaining things to me or asking my permission!). So that wasn't great, but then after that all the staff were lovely, and the next night i had a wonderful MW who spent alot of time and patience with me helping me get the hang of BF after 48 hours without sleep and all the trauma of the night before, so VERY patient!
I guess overall, my verdict would be that Delivery Suite was great, and the aftercare is pot luck whether its great or awful!
I may end up delivering there again, although hopefully i'll have my homebirth this time instead.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!
