Anyone put on meds for bp?

So I have finally just been put on meds for my high bp. I was started on them just yesterday and a very low dose. (labetalol 50 mg 2 x's a day) I had a nst yesterday as well. Baby girl was NOT doing well with it and I was sent to the birth floor for a 2nd nst and fluid check. I just happened to drink some chocolate milk and she finally perked up and had some movements and her heartrate looked better. They had me drink juice at the first nst and it didn't help at all though. The dr said if the meds don't bring my bp down a bit then he might be inducing by 36 weeks. Otherwise hoping to make it to 37 at least. Really hoping they help a bit as I really don't want to be induced before 37 weeks. I've been on modified bed rest and it isn't doing enough to help my bp. My next appt, nst, and fluid check is in 2 days... Thursday.

Anyone put on meds for bp? Which meds? What mg? Any side affects? Did they help you? How long did it take for the meds to help if they did?

I have borderline hypertension before pregnancy but they have never thought they should put me on meds. And even the past month with high bp they never put me on anything. I was induced with Megan at 37 weeks with high bp and she was iugr. She stopped growing much that last month before induction.

I was diagnosed with high bp as well and I am on the exact same med and dosage. I don't have any side effects from it, it has worked well for me so far. It brought my blood pressure from 160/90s down to 118/77 at my last appt. Now I have the possibility of having GD hanging over my head. I'm not sure how fluid is for my baby, I have an u/s next week so they can moniter me.

Thanks! They are having me monitor my bp at home ( I have had to for a while) and said if it got that low then to stop taking it and call them. Lol they want it to only go down a little bit or they say by this point the baby won't handle the change well. Im wondering if it will have an affect in time as if it's not better by Thursday I'm guessing I won't be leaving the hospital. As of now it's done nothing but I wouldnt think it would work this fast

My Dr was worried about mine dropping too low too, so I have weekly visits from now on but it worked straight away. I have to monitor my bp at home as well, so far its been okay.

I'm currently on 300mg, 200mg, 300mg labetalol a day after starting off at 100mg twice a day at about 12 weeks. The only side effect I have had even at 800mg a day is tiredness and that hasn't been too bad. I'm 33 weeks now so I think my tiredness is more pregnancy related than from the medication now. Only downside is I might not be able to breastfeed at such high doses. xx

So they upped your dosage as lower dose didn't work?

I read on the pharmacy sheet something about breastfeeding and was going to ask the dr on thursday about it. I asked him about side affects and all and he never mentioned it so curious about that.

My mother and sister is on it. And my sister is pregnant as well.

The only symptoms i've seen them have is if they didn't eat their bp would be below. My mom use to get nose bleeds from it every now but i havent heard her having one for a few years now. And it makes both of them go to the bathroom alot!

But besides that, no symptoms from either of them.

edit: i forgot my cousin told me this last week: My cousin was also on bp and it made her milk supply dry up after like 4 weeeks.
she was 38 when she got pregnant though AND had Preeclamspia so that could of stemmed to her milk supply drying up too

good luck

I was diagnosed at 32wks with high BP and took 200mg x2 meds, in fact, worked well until wk 36, when protein in urine and bad blood tests back so was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and had LO (we're both fine now!) -- just keep a close eye on yourselves -- if you start to get bad headaches, very swollen bits (ankles okay, face not!) and a sense of unease, please get yourself to A&E or call somebody asap -- I was monitored very closely, (seen every other day), but the PE came quickly!

best wishes
