Making my own Moby Wrap..........

Hi,

I've just watched a You Tube tutorial on how to use te Moby Wrap and I've only just realised that it's actually just a long length of fairly wide material.

Is it just me or does £40 seem expensive for what it is? I am thinking of making my own (well basically buying a length of material the right size and sewing the hems!) it will cost about £10, I'm pretty handy on the sewing machine so the hems will be straight forward.

My concern is obviously safety so I want to make sure I use strong fabric that has the correct amount of 'give'.
Does anyone know if the Moby wraps are cotton? I'm guessing they have a little stretch?

i would have ago, and if it works you have saved £30 just make sure you choose good material and hem the edges well to stop fraying

Ibe never heard of a Moby Wrap sorry but Ive often thought the same thing about the baby slings (not sure if its the same thing) and the breastfeeding shawls. Surely a durable piece of material will hold baby especially I dont think I will be really letting go of her properly anyway, mainly just for supprort.

Do you have a sling library near you? You can borrow slings for a week or two at a time, maybe if you borrowed one then you could have a play with it and see what the material is like.

Unfortunately no sling libraries in my area

I think theyre a fab idea and should be everywhere.

I think I will go check them out in store (I think mothercare do them) and have a go at making my own.

My sister did this! She just got a really long piece of material and watched thousands of youtube videos on how to wear it.

I think if you go to www.thebabywearer.com. There are articles on making your own. Suggestions on fabrics and plenty of pictures and women who do it all the time.

ask around in natural parenting i know some of the ladies there have made their own and they are pretty good on the safety side of things in there x

I got a second hand moby wrap from a friend. I agree it's just a really long shaped piece of fabric - a bit of a rip off for £40. Just had a look and its 100% cotton. The material is quite dense and is really soft. Can't wait to use it with baba!
