sure start grant

Hi ladies

how are you all feeling?

Thought I would share some advice with you regarding sure start grant and those who work and if you are entitled to working tax credit and child tax credit's.

I got this info of a lovely man at the call centre, as some of you may know we cant send off our forms until our babies are here unlike the people who are on the dole who get it straight away before their baby is here.

Soon as baby is born send of you form when you send off you working tax credit forms (thats if you are entitled to them) you will be denied the grant at first but as soon you find out that you are getting WTC/CTC call the social fund people who do the grant and tell them that you are now getting the taxes.

By sending the grant form off early you are already on the system for when you get your WTC/CTC and all the social fund people do is go over your details on computer instead of you doing a form again

It does take time, mine nearly took 2 months to start everything out

hope this helps

Ooo thanks

So If I send off the form as soon as Elliot is born, they'll say no, then once I've got CTC/WTC set up, ring them and they'll say yes?

If you look on the HMRC website you'll find all the info out.

Do/did you work before mat leave?
If yes, how many hours?

Oh thank you So I should send off the form asap, they will say no, but then phone them when I know how much WTC and CTC we're entitled to?

Do you know roughly what income we would need to have to be entitled to it? I phoned them to ask but they wouldn't tell me. I think my OH is right on the borderline as to whether he will be entitled to WTC, whether we get it will depend on whether the base it on before or after he had a 2% pay rise.

That site is a good reference point. Just put in how many hours you and your partner usually work etc and they work out what you're entitled to x

Its strange that they wouldn't tell you...

I rang up and they give me a rough idea of what I'll be entitled too once LO is born!

I find them links really helpful.

They might explain it a bit better to anyone who's confused by it.

Thank you for the links Just been on both of them and I think we will get about £40 a week child tax credit and £20 a week child benefit. I don't think we will get WTC, we're right on the borderline.

So, for the sure start maternity grant, we need to be receiving a certain amount of CTC, is £40 a week enough?
