I believe they were illegal when I had my first kiddo. I did have a scooter that converter to a push car and my daughter loved that. Again though common sense is a good thing.

Ya, I was suprised to see this, because all the warnings and saftey issues could be an saftey issue with a lot of baby stuff... But really? Come on, I guess there are parents that are stupid enough to not watch their kids, but im pretty sure the vast majority of parents would pay great attention to their kids in one.

I heard about this downtown today, I guess some mom in my town had socail services called on her, and they told her if she didnt destroy and show proof of it being destroyed they were going to take her kids, and take it to the courts! They bought it in the states and i guess snuck it in, than someone complained about it.

Why would you put your kid in a baby walker near the top of the stairs anyway? Sounds like they should ban stupidity, not the walker.

Either way, I wouldn't put my LO in one until she was at least starting to take a couple of steps by herself. Rushing their development and trying to make them "walk" prematurely is pretty bad for their little developing muscles.

This is a really interesting article on walkers and bumbo seats and suchlike:

Great link. Thanks for posting it. It confirmed stuff that I kind of already knew but it's useful to remember that you need to allow your baby to develop at their own speed. Both of my nephews took ages to hone their gross motor skills but would spend hours fiddling with toys and pressing buttons, which has left them with excellent fine motor skills. They went through each of the vital development stages but only when they were ready. They take after their mum, as apparantly she took a long time to walk/crawl. Whereas on our side of the family, we were all quick to do those things. A baby that happily lies on its back or tummy and is in no rush to crawl or walk is a blessing- you get a more relaxing time for much longer!!

Cheers for this....i would NEVER have thought of what it doing for babies back...i see all these things used all the time...with obviously too young children!

With the walkers are they legal if they fixed...or only just ones on wheels?

My OH won't let us get one cos it buggered his legs up when he was a kid. Dr sys it's cos he was in a walker too often for too long. Made him a lil bowlegged. So we won't be using one for his peace of mind.

We used one with Nolan- we would only use it on the main level of the house (no stairs to fall down and for 10 minutes at a time. I probably won't use it again because I have a toddler than will be able to open doors and don't want to risk an accident with the basement stairs.

I've used a walker with both mine, not until they were ready of course. And was thinking of getting a Bumbo for this one but again won't use it til he's ready.

Why are drop side cribs/cots banned in the US?! I haven't read the links so sorry if its in there

xx

Most of the incidents with dropside cribs are user neglect. They are installed improperly or upside down. Also, many of the parts are plastic that can wear down. Our crib is a dropside as we bought it in 2008 with our dd. We did however put on the replacement parts from the manufacture so now the dropside is stationary. I would love to get a new crib, but it doesn't really make sense.
