Not afraid of the pain of labor, just afraid of the unknown?

Is anyone else the same? Especially FTMs?

I know labor is gonna hurt, everyone knows that. And yeah, I am a little bit afraid about that part. But mostly i'm afraid about all the unknowns to do with giving birth. When is labor gonna start for me? How long is it gonna take? Will I need pain relief/what kind will work best on me? Am I gonna make it to hospital in time to have her delivered or is she gonna take forever to come? Are there gonna be complications? Will I need an emergency C-section?

Giving birth is probably one of the most uncontrolable medical procedures (lol) i'll have had happen to me. Theres just no telling how your birth is gonna go and that scares the crap out of me. I'm not even bothering having a birth plan for this very reason!

Oh yeah, definitely. It's very scary because every birth is different. The doctors aren't even prepared for how YOURS, in particular, will go. Everything will have to change and adjust according to how your body works during it and how your baby reacts, etc. It is quite terrifying to think about.
I'm starting my birthing class on Tuesday and I'm hoping that that will put some of my fears to rest. However, it's one of those things that you can't really prepare for until you're in the moment. So, I'm like you, I'm not setting up a birthing plan or anything. I will have some notes marked down like: Baby is not to leave the room without a family member with them and those kinds of things.

Yeah, I'm the same way! DH says I worry about everything, and well, I guess I kinda do. I've been getting really anxious about the whole L&D experience, and it's been made even worse since we've taken birthing classes. I know it sounds silly, but I wanted to walk in blind (obviously, I know what happens in the process , but I didn't want to know every last detail about what could go on) and not have any expectations at all about the delivery. And when I try to voice my concerns, everyone is like "oh, you'll be fine" or "well, it's too late to turn back now"...so I just keep them to myself.

Yes! I'm getting induced tomorrow and just know it will hurt lol. I wish I knew how long it would take, how I will cope, what pain relief I'll need, how long I'll be in. I'm worrying but I'm sure it won' be as bad once it happens. I always worry about things but after I'm like "Actually that wasn't bad" We'll all have our LO to make us feel better after too

I'm the same way...I'm terrified lol I'm not so much worried about the pain either...I'm more worried about how I will cope with the pain, how long I will be in labor, if I'll need an emergency c section, etc. it'sdefinitely scary not knowing what will happen, when it will happen, or how it will happen!

I know it'll hurt! I am just scared of a large being coming out of a small area. That is what scares me. And will I tear or will it ever be the same down there.

I'm afraid of the pain too, but I think what I'm most afraid of is getting the epidural. I think it's a ridiculously large needle that they use, even getting blood drawn freaks me out. I know once I have complete pain relief I will be just fine. I'm also worried about the whole chaos of getting to the hospital, checking in, getting settled into my room, etc. Oh that and vomiting during labor! Apparently it's common - hoping it doesn't happen to me, I have a wicked phobia of puking. I'm not afraid of tearing or pooing though, I'm sure the Drs have seen it all
