Just visited with our pediatrician and asked the same thing! He said, when you're ready to go out, baby can go out. Just dress as you're dressed along with onesie underneith and hat

I was out with my son at 2 days old. I would have been out sooner but I decided to stay in my local birth centre for a day so I could get breast feeding support.

I see no problem with it, only next time round I'll be careful on who handles my baby. When my son was 1 week old we went to a family birthday party. A lot of people held him, I shouldn't have allowed it and didn't enjoy him being away from me but it's done now. A week later he was admitted to hospital with a blood infection. Someone at the party said their child had a bacterial infection and never thought to tell us so that's how Thomas got ill it was awful, he had to have lumbar puncture, a cannula in his hand, several antibiotics etc. We were in hospital for about a week.

I think the passing around the baby would be a problem, but we have a wedding to go to when baby will be around three weeks old. I'm actually IN the wedding party.

However, I plan on taking the baby out as soon as possible.

woah, you're keen I cant think of anything worse than going visiting the day Ive given birth, eek.
My friend got straight in the car after giving birth and being discharged and went into town shopping just so she could push her pram around finally - I've been pushing my pram round the house since 20 weeks I'm dying to go out so Im just hoping I have the energy afterwards my plan could probably go down the drain, I dunno how I'll feel

We went to the super Market on the way home from the hospital with dd. I wouldn't recommend it as I was knackered after but if baby is healthy and you're upto it there is nothing to stop you taking them out from day one. I never bothered much with hand sanitiser etc unles s I'd emptied bins etc. Just practice sensible hand hygiene - wash hands After using the bathroom, changing nappies, preparing feed etc.

i admire how keen you are i really do.. but just a word of warning i wanted to do the same, i had all these dreams of going out etc, but the truth is i was so tired and sore that it just wasnt an option. if your friend went straight out from giving birth i salute her, but she really will be in a very small percentage of women who could manage that so dont beat yourself up if you cant! lol plus i was advised as far as walking is concerned to take it easy for the first few days, apparently overdoing it can cause your uterus to prolapse id say i dont know if its true but it was the midwives and baby doctor who told me this so im guessing it is! lol x

We took baby on way home from hospital to mothercare with us so i could get a few breastfeeding bras i had been bursting out of the ones i thought woudl fit. I plan to do the same this time as well. Got to have the basics right and a bra is definitely one of them. Budget needs to increase through they have got horrendously expensive for a scrap of material with no bones in it.
