My cat was 12 when LO was born, i also got the 'she will suffocate baby' speech. We set the crib etc up early in our room let her have a sniff and she never gave it anymore attention. So when baby came home all his stuff was already there so it wasnt like her house got all changed suddenly.

We let her have a sniff of him and then she was never all that interested. (she did give him evil stares if he started crying when she was trying to nap lol but would get up disgusted and find somewhere else to sleep. She also quicklylearned when she could get our attention. Often she would walk up to him in his car seat right after we got home, if he was awake she would go back to napping but if he was asleep she knew she had time with us and would come for snuggles, it was so cute.

Sadly she passed away when he was four months old. She had a stroke and cos i cared for her her whole life, i knew straightaway something was wrong and took her to the vet. I know she got the best possible chance, and i was with her in her lsat moments. If i had given her away and someone else hadnt noticed the change so quickly and she didnt have all the chances she had, and i wasnt with her for the last few months of her life i would never have forgiven myself, or the person who pushed me to give her away.

My biggest regret is that i only have 1 pic of kitty and LO together because i didnt want to push them together, it makes me sad he wont remember her

Other tips i gotr from cat friednly people were to do things like starts using any baby toiletries on yourself or round the house so the cat gets used to the smell. I used johnsons lotions in my bath and as a body mosturiser for a month or so before. If baby isnt all new smells they will be less interested. If there is a room your going to keep shut off ie a nursery start shutting the door every time now. Not only does it help you not forget to do it when its important it also stops the cat associating not being allowed in with the baby being there.

Anything really that stops everything being new when baby comes. If you introduce a few things at a time throughout your pregnnacy it makes bringing baby home less stressful for kitty

Wow

Even more disturbing is the fact that she told you she had a dream about your baby being killed. I would NEVER say that to a pregnant woman (or any woman for that matter).

That is awful. My sister just had her baby 2 weeks ago, she has 4 kitties and all has been fine. They stay in the one room during the day while baby is out and then at night they have run of the house and my sister shuts her bedroom door. So far they have liked to have a sniff of the baby and sniff the baby things but that's all

I have also been getting lectures from people about my dog, she's a large dog but so so sweet and I just know she'll be fine. Everyone keeps asking what I'm going to do with her....UM NOTHING! Just watch them and be cautious, it's not that hard

After talking to the husband... he agrees his mom is just crazy about it. They never had pets when their kids were that young. Which i think explains hubbys allergies (he is allergic to our cats hahah.... but loves them just as much). I've read lots of articles about how babies around pets generally dont have allergies to them... if they do its like a 2% chance!

Anyways, ya, shes crazy. I just couldnt believe how shes all oh i dreamed about it, blah blah blah...

I dreamed of going in labor and birthing my daughter, and the doctor shoved her right back in me LOL.. should i not go to that doctor?

I am sorry, I had a giggle at the the thought of scary vicious Pomeranian!

I have a dog and two cats and they're all staying, It's just establishing rules.. and I doubt my puggle will rip a face off

I'm probably going to sound like a crazy person but I also plan on keeping my cats an my large breed dogs! Also I don't care if the cats are in the baby's room. For the first 8 months -1 year baby will be beside me all night anyways. And the cats sleep on the foot of my bed. I'm sure everything will be just fine. I wouldn't worry about having pets and kids. Seems silly to me how so many people make a big deal over things like this. Just ignore your mil. It's your baby. Not hers. So your choice.

I don't understand why so many people are paranoid about cats and babies! All it takes is a little vigilance and everything will be fine - and no more is required than if you were to have dogs or some other animal.

I will be getting something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Tots-In-Mind-C...2204817&sr=8-2

have the wars started, or am i early?

im quite happy my tiny human is coming just as its warming up...the dogs will be outside almost all of the time while she gets a bit bigger, and theyll get used to her smell and meet her once in a while. im a bit worried because she'll be starting to crawl once they come back into the house more often, but i have confidence in my ability to watch, and i am fairly sure the doggehs will be good.

I had cats when I was a baby. And they were anything but vicious! Lol. One could care less about me and the other would actually follow me around. When I was sleeping in my crib, she would always sleep underneath it and once I started to cry she would walk out to my mom and back into my room (back and forth) until someone picked me up.
