I'm keeping my cats case CLOSED!

UGH!! I wanna scream, mother in law called today to see if our babies dresser is in yet, though its not suppoes to be in till next weekend.

She proceded to ask me how our cats are, I said great, now that they arent sick from the change in food. Than she proceeds to tell me how she is having night mares of our cats sleeping with baby and killing the baby..

the first thing i said was we are keeping them out of nursery by keeping the door closed yadayada, than she's all well u might forget i think tis better to get rid of them..

Umm excuse me, I did not RESCUE my F'n cats from the pound, one of which was there for a year, only to get rid of them. I made the commitment to keep my damn cats though sickness, and health lol... I just wanted to scream at her, serioulsy people have had pets with kids, she has had pets with kids..

So glad she lives 5 hours away...

UGHHHHH! i needed to rant.

Wow, how obnoxious. I can't imagine anyone how pissed off I'd be if someone told me to get rid of my cats, especially when the baby's not even here yet and there aren't any problems! Honestly I don't think you need to bother explaining yourself or defending your decision to her - there's no way to persuade someone who's being totally irrational.

It's none of her bloddy business!!!!

I know some people have no choice to get rid of pets especially as some dogs can be tempremental but why make the commitment to get a pet to gte rid of it!!!!!!

Someone I know has recently had a child and had a dog. They evicted the dog out to a relatives when the LO arrived and were unsure whether they would take her back. Worse thing they could have done of course the dog it not going to be able to adapt.

We have a dog who will be nearly 2 when LO arrives and he is staying put despite my brother saying we should give him away. He's part of our family and it's about being paitent with them and getting them used to LO etc

makes me mad lol

oh no another cat thread

i love my furbaby squeak to bits and there is no way she will be going anywhere when LO arrives i grew up with cats from being a newborn and they never suffocated me i am still here alive and kicking. she will have to learn that not all soft fluffy blankets belong to her and that the nursery is a no go area but she is a clever little kitty and i am sure she will learn quickly

My MIL told me today that my dogs (2 Pomeranians) are going to get jealous and rip my baby's face off...

I laughed in her face-literally. She didn't find it amusing but that was the end of the conversation!!

The cat thread starts again! Lol! Xx

Good for you. Babies and animals having been living together since the dawn of time. Pets are very rarely a permanent, long-term issue in living with young children. Of course there's an adjustment period and necessary precautions need to be taken, but I think some people get carried away. IMO, having a pet is a lifetime commitment. There are extreme circumstances where people are forced to give up pets, but I think it's important to try and make it work if you've committed to giving the pet a good home.

I also think that whole "cat climbs in crib with baby and suffocates them" thing is a myth. I have a friend with a cat who was concerned about this. We did internet research and chatted with folks in our neighborhood who are parents with cats and neither turned up any truth about that whole thing.

And I am sure when LO gets older they will learn that the kitty cats don't like to play lol.

My mum has 2 cats and they have always slept in her room even when she has had my nephew in there too. She has had him twice a week since he was 6 weeks old overnight and it has never been an issue.

He does know though that Lucy will scratch him if he is teasing her etc but he has been warned. But she never does it hard and she never leaves a mark on him unlike she does with us. But he is very happy to have a dairylea dunker and have a dunk and lick for himself and one for the cat - yuck!!! Lol
