Money Savings Tips & Ideas, Share yours!

I have just seen a similar thread in the teen parenting section and thought it might be nice to post in here so we can all share money saving tips and Ideas. I still live at home, so mine are just little ideas

It's always good to save, especially with LOs on the way!

A few tips I have are:

1) If I buy something in a shop and get 1p,2p or 5p coins, I put them in a separate part of my purse and they go into LOs money box.

2) I also do online banking, and I tend to pay by card in shops from time to time, so i've opened an online savings account, and a few times a week I check my account online and if I have say £50.67p I transfer the 67p Over into the savings account - Like my nan says ''Look after the pennies and the pounds look after themselves''

3) Don't buy something unless I really NEED it I know that one sounds logical, but if anyone is like me, I have a habit of buying things just for the sake of it :')

Anyone get any tips? Ideas?

They are fab ideas!

eBay!! Get second hand stuff as its normally just as good and cheaper and a way to save money but also search elsewhere for cheaper deals.

Online food shopping, wrte a list of your menus for the week and stick to them. The. U only spend what u need to and not all the Bogof deals etc.

Start Xmas shopping around now and put things away. Even if u don't know who it will be for you will guarantee you can give it to someone.

oooh yeah - I forgot about Ebay, I love it!!

And for Christmas, I have started saving for the love to shop vouchers through my mams friend.
I give her £30 a month, so come Christmas, I will have £300 saved, so I don't have to worry about that, and I also pick up little things I can do as stocking fillers and little gifts too!!

On Facebook there are a lot of buy / swop / sell groups for your local area....

I got a changing table on there for £20, 2 bin bags of clothing for £15 LOADS with tags on still as well.

I bought all the baby's clothes from thrift stores, garage sales, and consignment shops. Thrift stores normally charge a couple dollars for a grocery bag full of perfectly good clothes! I also scored a Graco Pack n Play for $8.00 the last time I went to a thrift shop

Ebay

Borrow stuff from friends/family who have kids within the last few years. My cousin won't have another kid for a while, so I'm borrowing her glider chair and baby carrier. I also am borrowing a friend's HUGE box full of maternity clothes so I didn't have to buy any!

Buy diapers online. I'm buying my diapers off amazon.com with their subscribe & save feature which saves you 5%, in addition to free shipping. A box of 180 diapers bought at Walmart in town is the same price for 300 diapers online! Plus I don't have to pay sales tax online.

Buy, Swap, Sell groups on Facebook. I got my stroller for $30.00 on there, a never-been-used swing for $80.00, and a Bumbo for $10.00.

Shop around and try own brands. For example asda smart price beans =29p heinz =69p over half price and taste nice also in asda you can get RC cola.. Tastes just like coca cola and at only 60p a bottle its a steal. Buy meal ingredients in larger portions so if like me you only have a few to feed you can make double and freeze half for the following week, it works out cheaper than buying it twice in smaller portions (for spag bol and casseroles etc) I also try to save money by only withdrawing say 70% of the money I have (im on benefits so not withdrawing a months wage or anything) and I tell myself that what I have in my purse is al I have, it seems to be working I also buy alot of things second hand as they are just as good. And accept any freebies offered. At the moment mcdonalds has the monopoly on and iv also been saving the win cash coupons and just trying the codes, usually id have thrown these but you never know! X

Sorted through wardrobe and sold everything i hadnt worn in ages - even way before preg days (or still had tags on lol) then with the money got to buy new baby stuff.

Boot sales again sold lots so could buy more.

Online food shopping - can do a week shop for £50 where when i go shop i end up spending twice as much on 'luxury' items.

I love ebay!
I also look out for posters in shop windows for local events, like nearly new sales. I've bought so many baby things, and they are really good quality! My sister even got a Pink Lining bag for £7!
I also buy a lot of things in the sales that i can give as presents or use next year.
Like someone said, the facebook groups are good. I also use Gumtree to buy/sell things.
