Breastfeeding..... pump???

So, I've been doing some research on breast feeding and I 100% want to do it, or at least try. It may well not work as I have implants (PIP Implants too )

But, I was wondering IF I need to still get a breast pump or not? And if so, do I buy one before she arrives or can it wait till she is a couple months old?
I will be off work for 9 months, till Feb next year but I still wanted OH to be involved in the feeds & if the grandparents want to take her out then I will have to pump won't I?
Will she be ok going from boob to bottle etc, even though it's all breast milk? Hopefully!

You don't NEED to get a breastpump at all... that's a completely personal choice. I already have a little manual one, but I don't plan to use it for a long time unless I really have to. If you want your husband to be able to feed your baby as well, you will need to pump and if you are going to allow people to take your baby out without you then you will need to pump. If you plan to be with her all the time, then it's perfectly fine to just feed from the breast. It's up to you.

Oh also, since you have implants and are unsure of your physical ability to breastfeed, I would wait until after she is born and after you have found out if you can do it or not. The reason for this is that most pumps are fairly expensive and it'd be a waste of money if you find that you are unable to breastfeed.

That's what I was thinking, I could be a total waste of £100! I doubt I'd be able to return it either lol.

Breast implants don't effect ability to breastfeed if that reassures you, as they are not placed within but under breast tissue. However, my perosnal feeling only, but due to recent scare of pip implants could you ask your healthcare team to perform an ultrasound to check rupture. I know with pip implants many have ruptured without the owman knwoing and obviously if they had could affect your decision to bf. I'm sure there will be a a lacatation consultant at your hospital. I've had implants and had them removed - so two surgeries in total on my breasts and I was a bit worried that i wouldn't be able to despite reassurance and I mananged wonderfully - i had a good supply and exclusively bf for 6 months when I weaned my little one onto food and carried on for another 4 months after that. I personally would prebuy a basic manual pump though - as it can help get your milk supply going - maybe just spend £15 xx

I agree, if you really want to try, buy a cheap manual one, they're about 15. Could be useful also to express when your boobs are engorged!

my midwife told me not to take baby from the breast until about 6 weeks as he might get confused, so hubby will have to wait a little before he can feed him! x

I've checked with my midwife and a specialist breastfeeding midwife and they have explained it is ok to BF with PIP implants
Basically, the molecules in silicone are large and wouldn't pass through the nipple, ruptured or not (mine aren't thank god, but can't have them replaced till after baby is here obviously). And like the MW said, there is also silicone in bottle teats. The only issue is whether or not she will latch on.
My implants are under the muscle also so fingers crossed!
And I've been leaking, I'm hoping that's a good sign but just gotta wait I guess!

Think I will get looking on amazon for a manual breastpump, thank you
