HELP! When should OH take his holiday? Advice needed :) !!

Hi ladies, hope you're all well

So today OH is planning his holiday for when the baby is here. He decided against paternity leave because he'd be losing quite alot of money and he's owed quite alot of holiday anyway (we argued about this but we decided this was the best decision).

Thing is we have no idea when to book it for? The baby is due 7th May, and he was planning on taking it between 30th april to the 17th may (he gets 2 weeks and 3 days off) does that sound okay?

I was thinking maybe the 4th may to the 21st may? I have a few concerns, what if the baby is early? what if the baby is late? technically, he gets a week sick leave aswell so if the baby was to come out of these dates, he could still be there for us (we don't live together, he's going to be staying with us between these days)

I'd love to hear what you ladies have chosen! It'd really help us to make the best choice

Thanks

My OH has done the same, but he just provisionally booked off the two weeks after the baby was due, starting on the due date. His boss knows babies come when they want so if the baby is early/late he can just start his holiday then.

I think if I was you, I'd go for closer to the 7th, as you don't want the baby to be late and then end up only having your OH around for a week or even less.
Maybe your OH could have a word with his boss and see if he can be flexible?

My OH has been allowed to be flexible about it. Which is just as well since we're now 2 days overdue and counting! Is that a possibility for your OH?

If he tells work that D-Day is 7th and that he'll want to take approx 2 weeks "sometime" around that date?

See this is what I was thinking, he's recently moved jobs, he used to work on the shop floor with a manager who I swear I could punch, he's moved to dispatch now and they seem a bit better but still early days... They do seem a bit more flexible.

I will ask him about his manager. Hopefully they'll be okay with it! Thank you

Hubby has his pencilled in but with the facility to change it just by ringing in - he's taking two days off a week for a few weeks to just reduce the zombie factor for the weeks after his paternity leave.

The other thing we've had thrown at us that may complicate things for some other people (I hadn't realised till hubby sat down with his boss and talked through what we were planning) are the barrage of bank hols in May - there's an extra one for the Jubilee again (like the royal wedding one last year) and depending on work contracts - they don't get taken off his paternity leave or holiday entitlement if the baby's arrival coincides with them - so depending on when ours shows up - his two weeks paternity could well be two and a half weeks if it arrives on the bank hols!

My DH is taking 2 weeks paternity, so just from the day LO arrives! My advice as at least one PP said, is to take his leave from as close to your due date as possible! My sisters DH had to pre-book his too and he took off a week before due date, and a week after (roughly). LO was a week late, so they literally had the weekend together! Plus he wasted his holiday leave sitting around watching his heavily pregnant wife wait for labour every day! Unless your OH has lots of bits and pieces to be getting on with, theres no point in his taking time off before baby arrives!

OH is taking paternity but i'm trying to get him to go to work for as long as possible because my hormones are all over the place and all I seem to want to do is kill him lol. He will start paternity as soon as labopur kicks in or i feel I can't manage on my own anymore.

My OH isnt taking paternity leave either as it doesnt make financial sense given the pittance that he would get so he is taking a couple weeks holiday instead. He is just going to take it from when I go into full on labour rather than book certain dates. He will let work know roughly when he will be off but nothing will be written in stone. x
