You feel their neck/chest/stomach area and that should tell you how hot or cold they are.

For the winding question - my daughter used to burp (sometimes really loud lol) and bring up a wee bit of milk. I used to wind her halfway through and after the bottle.

I can't remember where I heard it from, but I was definitely told they should be happy wearing one more layer than you are comfortable in. So if you are in just a short sleeved t-shirt, then a vest and t-shirt should be fine for them.
A good tip is to place a finger down the back of their neck as even if their legs/hands/arms/feet feel cold to the touch, the warmth there will be a good indicator of how toasty they are. Cool, white, shortsleeved vests under everything as a rule of thumb but sometimes that itself is enough if the day is very warm

My questions are:

Would you recommend Baby moisturiser or baby oil and should you use it every time you bath baby? Im assuming the cream question before was to do with nappy cream?

Is it correct that you shouldnt bath the baby until the cord falls off and if thats the case how long does it take to fall off? I was planning to top and tail until it fell off?

If baby is born with hair would you use baby shampoo straight away or is that not needed until baby is older? (Oh and is there a special method to getting your babys head to have the gorgeous baby smell which Im obsessed with )

How do you know if your baby has colic or reflux?

Do all baby girls get "baby periods"?

Thanks!! x
I didn't use either. I wasn't quite sure what their purpose was

Never heard that one before. I did bath her (in hospital actually). The cord thing fell off after about a week.

My daughter had vey little hair so I only used a tiny bit of shampoo.

They will scream the place down lol.

Mine didn't. I think it's fairly common though.

1. We never bothered with special cream/moisturiser. Just used newborn friendly bath wash and had a tub of sudocrem to hand for anything that looked red or uncomfy!
2. Absolutely right, I think DD's took about 6 days to fall off. Groooooooss!
3. For me, the purple bottled or clear babywash by Johnson&Johnson achieved that very smell - I know the one you mean! That will be fine for the first few washes. Most Bounty packs come with a sample bottle I believe that's fine for baby's first bath.
4. Personally, I found 'colic' to just be a useful term for drs to use when they just didn't know what was up. It's so common for babies to be fussy, windy, restless etc that 'colic' is just a handy umbrella term for when they're being proper high maintenance! Our DD def had reflux as she would be sick in little bits for a good 40 mins after each feed. Very frustrating but does get better.
5. DD never had any kind of blood down there that I noticed.

I've downloaded a BF'ing app too, looks helpful but may do the ribbon thing too as I always forget to charge my phone!

The johnsons purple bath stuff is so lovely, I've used a bottle already in my baths

I just packed baby's bag for Hospital and took your advice and didn't bring the dummies, definetly don't want to make BF'ing harder for myself so thanks for the tip!

I packed 3 x newborn sleepsuits and vests, 3 x 0-3 sleepsuits and vests, 2 x hats, 2 x mittens, 3 x socks, 6 x bibs, 3 x muslins. Pack of nappies, cotton balls and nappy sacks. Will I need more clothes? xo

We've had to use baby moisturizer. Her skin is super dry. We use it daily.

That's what we were told... took hers 15 days to fall off. O.o

We've used baby shampoo once, and otherwise just wash with water. I think babies just have that smell, cause she's got tons of hair and always has that smell!

hi all moms and moms-to-be..

i have a question which has been in my mind since few months now..
I was thinking HOW mother knows how many clothes shall the baby has on her/himself when outside and inside[the house].. i know it depends on weather, but still.. two days ago, if was super warm and sunny [23 degrees],-i could see babies in the prams wrapped with warm vests and blankets and hats on their heads, as well as socks and shoes.. but then, same day i saw baby with short sleeve with bare foot with no blanket at all.. so.. my question is, is there any rule for that.. ?? how can we know that?!

ps- ok, i just read that few ppl have already asked the same question.. sorry for doubling :P

Another thing - Is it okay to give your baby water? I know they get hungry but do they need to drink especially when it's hot to cool them down and keep them hydrated? xo

If you are breastfeeding I know they don't need any other fluid such as water x
