CASTOR OIL...Should I? 40 weeks

My due dates right now and I dont feel like im going to go in labor anytime soon. Im having so much ANXIETY worrying i will be a week or two overdue, Im affraid to give birth to a really big baby girl (I hear the longer overdue the bigger the baby) and I was a big baby at birth so genetics plays a factor, im worried as it can cause complications if left to long & dont want to be induced if she doesnt come as my doctor mentioned it increases risk of C section, forceps and vacuum use which i want to avoid like the plague. I can end up having both if she doesnt come out soon. Im feeling miserable emotionally a mess and physically, I just want my baby in my arms.

So has anyone had castor oil to bring on labor? it was actually my OB who mentioned it to me when I asked what I can do for labor to come, but said you may not want to as it can cause diarrhea. Im considering jumping across the street to the drug store and getting some. Im just really debating and want to hear some opinions on people who HAVE TRIED it. My cervix is thinning and im 1 cm dialated. what are your experiences? Did the diarrhea stop before you gave birth? I dont want to be pooping all over the place while in labor! (Sorry tmi) but Id like to know how it would go. Im so close to getting some!
Thanks

My sister took it and ended up with horrible back labour because the baby wasn't ready... it lasted like 30 hours whereas it would have probably been easier and faster if she had waited... they had to use forceps and then the baby ended up with horrible colic for the first 4 months...

I'd wait if I were you!!

If you want to have terrible diarrhea, go ahead! lol

i personally would wait. try the other natural induction methods, or just wait.

sorry I dont have better advice, but I have never heard of a good experience after oil.

I read you're not really meant to try castor oil till you hit 41 weeks but whenever you do it it will never be pretty. It is basically a major diarrhetic but it is best to have a 'clean out' prior to labour than in labour and some MW's I know do actively suggest Castor Oil. If its what you want to do and feel comfy doing it then go for it.

I took it 2days overdue with LO. I took half the bottle in a pint of fresh orange juice at 11pm show came away about 330am had first contraction around 430ish got to hospital at 6.15am was 7cm dilated and LO was born at 8.49am with only gas and air for pain relief. I was paranoid about doing the toilet though.

Having said that it worked for me but I do know some people who it didn't work for and they ended up having sickness and dihorea instead. also my aunt ended up on infection diseases unit after giving birth because she was so bad she was isolated from my little cousin.

Also most chemists don't sell it any more and they def wont give it to a pregnant woman. I had to send a friend and she was quizzed about why she wanted it she just said she didn't know her gran had asked her to get it for her and she didn't know why.

i had castor oil with my DS and he came a few days later but i dont know if that had anything to do with the oil or not. The castor oil is horrible to take and literally withiin 10 mins i had terrible stomach cramps and was rushing to the loo.. It is fab for clearing you out but the pains that come with it.

I think it's one of those things that will work differently for everyone. With my ds I took it at 7pm and he was born at 7.05am the next morning on his due date after a 12hr start to finish labour. Because it was a success I will be using it again. Just be warned that it doesn't work for everyone, but good luck. I hope the eviction goes well!

I took it at 40 weeks with my 1st but just got diareah. (when I went into labour naturally a few days later I was only 1cm after about 7 hours).

Second baby my MW told me to take it and so I had a sweep that day (39+5) and I was already 2-3 cms so I was ready. Took it at 3pm and then 4 pm, diareah a few hours later, then awoke at 1am with a MEGA contraction that took me thru to 7am with a baby boy!! My friend who was 2 weeks behind me was jealous and a few days later took some and had her baby with in a couple days, but her baby was really tiny and covered in vernix so I dont think she was ready to come out. Still healthy tho. (her other two babies were a week over due each).

I gave some to my friend who was 10 days over due and with in a few hours (and after diareah) her waters broke and had her baby a few hours later. Same story with her sister at bang on 40 weeks.

Personally I think it is a much better alternative to medical induction, and just take a TBSP twice and then wait. Then you wont poo in labour either cos youll be all cleaned out!! Would 100% do it again.
