Will you get your LO tested?

Found this article quite interesting. If the disease is so deadly if not caught early and treated then why is it not something that so many states don't test for. It's called SCID and if not discovered then won't live to see second birthday. Ones who aren't tested are ultimately determined to have died from nemonia (sp?) or meningitis.

See if your state does the testing or not. If not please request.

Sad story It seems like this testing would be mandatory before your child leaves the hospital, though. Only 6 dollars could've prevented this, I def be testing my daughter.

It is very sad. You would think they would test for it regularly, and many parents don't even know about this disease. I had no idea about it till read this aretical. very scary.

Looks like the state I live in requires it. One less test for me to remember to request.

It says Florida doesn't even offer it? So I guess I can't even request it?

I'm from Canada and I do know that they test the babies within 48 hours for a whole list of things. I'm not going to worry about requesting a test for this specific thing. It is very informative, but quite honestly...there are SOOOO many diseases out there that newborns can be prone to. And they can also be prone to viruses like RSV etc. which is high risk if a newborn develops it. But the chances are so small...I think one of the BIG things I have learned as a mom so far is that you just do what you feel is best for your baby...and you do what you can to protect them. There are THOUSANDS of diseases and viruses out there...

My state doesn't test for it and I doubt I'll have the testing done.
