I rub my bump and i also stick my arms out in big crowds to protect it. I work at a school and passing periods are dangerous!!! A few kids have gotten the elbow for getting too close LOL Also when it is really noisey, i will realize i have been humming and singing to baby to sooth him.. i don't even realize when i start. It's just a natural instinct i guess.
I do it from when she had been kicking the life out of my ribs, I found putting pressure on them stopped the pain (and the foot! ), so now I always have my hands on my bump, I sometimes rest my cup of tea on it too hehe.
It is definitely a protective thing for me now though.
