dont need a lecture, just some advice... anybody who self-checked?

so, i am only 27 weeks. i had my daughter vaginally 2 years ago.

i have been loosing my mucus plug since Saturday, every day a little... no blood.
i called L&D on saturday and they said it regenerates and not to worry.
of course i can't do it.
A few minutes ago I decided to selfcheck, my middle finger fits inside my cervix. does that mean i am dilating? or does the cervix just not close all the way after having a baby?

I am freaking out now, just dont want to call the doc and tell them I did it

I think I read if it's not your first baby your cervix can stay dilated at 1 and slightly open. Hope that helps

If you've had one baby before the external cervix never fully closes, only the internal one.

They found me to be 'just about a cm/fingertip' when I was 33 weeks - I panicked, but it turns out they consider it completely normal when you've already had a baby.

I wouldn't worry - and I'm a self checker too, lol. My cervix didn't budge from that until just this week, and even then I could be sitting at 2-3cm right up and over my due date!

If you have had a baby before it never fully closes so you would be walking around 1cm dilated without really knowing it.! I would trust your maternal instinct if things don't feel right to you then go in. X

If you have had a baby before then your outer OS can be open but the inner OS closed. I would say that it's normal.

I'd agree that if you feel something isn't right or if you're at all worried, go and ask. It does no harm at all to seek some reassurance.

But I did ask about this when talking to my midwife, and she says it's completely normal to be 1cm dilated with 2nd babies onwards.
