How do I change place of birth-UK?

I've recently found out that my hospital's maternity unit is undergoing a refurb and they now have a make shift maternity unit on a ward. This means less facilities, no water pool/ bath, and no maternity theatre. It also means I'd be giving birth on the ward where I stayed when I had my ectopic. It just really un-nerves me.
My next closest hospital is 15 miles away and I really want to swap to that one for my remaining antenatal care and for my delivery. They have great facilities including a brand new, state of the art maternity block. I really should have gone there for my care, but if I'm honest I just wanted my early scan etc as soon as possible, so thought local was best.
How easy do you think it will be to change and how do I go about it? I'm very aware that I have less than 11 weeks to go and I have booked in for antenatal classes at my current hospital. I just want it sorted now that I've made the decision.
Have any of you swapped care providers and how easy/accommodating did you find them?

You can book yourself in via self referal to most. Have a look on the new hospitals website. Or you could continue with your booking at your old hospital and see your normal midwife and then just pitch up at the new one when you are in labor. Bear in mind the best hospital units wont allow you to book in if you live out of area( such as st thomas in london) because everyone wants to go there!
Check out birth choice uk on google

Hi, usually it's by referral from your gp. When I had my daughter my birth experience and aftercare at my local hospital was horrendous. This time I asked to be referred to another hospital (an hour away) my gp faxed them and it was all arranged from there. I still see my local midwives. Just ring the new hospital and ask how you go about it, the government say you can be treated where you want so you should be able to swap.

Good luck xx

I did think about just turning up at the new hospital, but to be honest I HATE my midwife too. Have done from day one. She's rude and inefficient. I asked her about a concern a few weeks ago and her reply was "go on the internet and find something else to worry about"... Yeah I've lost 5 babies you insensitive fool. I'm allowed to worry!!!
Never piss off a pregnant lady. Should be the first lesson at Midwifery schools!!

My Mum said I should be able to get treated anywhere too. I might just give them a call. Thank you.

I nearly changed recently. I rang the labour ward in the new hospital and cleared it with them. They said to get midwife to fill out proforma so they knew important info about me. However they said if I went into labour in meantime, just to turn up with as much info as possible x
