sweep/stripping? did it work for you?

My doctor said next week if I want to he would strip the membranes. Did this work for anyone here? They didn't do this with my first. Also - is it painful?

I had a sweep with my first and 24 hrs later my waters broke. It isn't painful just a bit uncomfortable

I was supposed to have one yesterday at 39+1 but the midwife couldn't do it because the cervix was not ready for it and the baby's head was not engaged. If the cervix isn't favourable then it's pointless. Once you get to your due date though it might speed things along. Many people say it's no worse than a smear test.

I had a stretch and sweep done yesterday and it didnt hurt at all and i am a wimp lol. I had loads of cramp and aches last night but seems to have died down this morning. Have my 2nd sweep booked for Tuesday so hoping something will happen.

I had my first yesterday at 9pm and to say it is uncomfortable is an understatement. It didn't quite become painful, it teetered on the edge of bearable. She counted to 10 and had a good push about [or whatever she was doing, was concentrating on getting to 10] and then nothing really happened afterwards. Went to bed at 11 and had pink mucus like discharge which is apparently normal. This morning it's 'old blood' but more of a show now. However it has a 1 in 7 chance of working and they only do it if you are ready. Thankfully it was also reassuring to know my cervix is as thin as a pancake and starting to dilate so... hopefully not long whatever happens.
I'd rather have a sweep than other forms of intervention and it wasn't so bad I wouldn't do it again.

I had a sweep plus two tablespoons of castor oil at 39+5 and it worked a treat! Sent me into labour that night

I've had two sweeps so far. One on Tuesday, gave me slight bleeding and a bit of plug came loose. Didn't hurt, was just uncomfortable.

The other this morning. So far, no particular effect from that one. But I'm really hoping it will do something 'cos this one hurt and she did "go for it" more than on Tuesday.
