Questions about my appointment today..

Hello ladies I had my 32 week check up today and there are a few questions I have!

1. What does cephale mean? I read it meant head-down (although the words I found were all 'ceph' and other shortened ways)

2. My baby's position is 'long' I read that means it's back is parallel to mine, but here comes the baby brain.. what does that actually mean!?

3. What does 'Fifths palpable' mean?

4. I have no anitbodies in my blood.. Is this normal?

5. At 33 weeks (one day off) my bump is measuring at 36cm! I've always measured one week ahead, is this just a growth spurt? And will I be measuring 4 weeks ahead from now on if I go back to 1cm a week, or will the growing slow down?

Thank you

Yes, head down

Means not transverse, in your case, head down, bum/feet up.

How much of baby's head can be felt, i.e. a reverse measure of how much the head is engaged. 0/5 means fully engaged, 5/5 means fully free.

Probably refers to anti-D. Are you Rh- and have had the anti-D injection? If you did, then no antibodies is good! The injection prevents your body from making antibodies against a possibly Rh+ baby. If you're Rh+, you will never have antibodies of this sort because they'd attack your own body, so "no antibodies" would be the default answer.

3cm is nothing to worry about, it's roughly 85th percentile according to my midwife. If you've always measured a bit ahead, it's likely a combination of measurement error and the way your bump is right now. If the acceleration in growth continues by your next appt and you're 4+cm ahead, you'll probably get sent for a growth scan, but if you're still 1-3cm ahead they'll figure it's just the way you're built and possibly you've just got a somewhat larger baby.

Hope my answers were helpful!!

Very helpful thank you!
I didn't have an injection, it was 28 week bloods taken, and they do an antibody check

The last one is going to get a wee bit more added in a minute, I was wondering should I be measuring 4 weeks ahead next time if I carry on back to 1cm a week? Or should it slow down now?

If you carry on at 1cm per week, you'll stay at 3cm larger than average. Example: 36cm at 33w, 1cm per week, 39cm at 36w.

My personal example: 23cm at 22w, 31cm at 28w, 33cm at 31w. Everyone's bump grows at slightly different rates, and it generally averages out as you go - my bet is that you'll be +2-3cm next time.
