Low blood platelets

Hi Ladies,

Has anyone had this?? I was admitted to the hospital last night due to a fever and then babies heart rate was going up and down so they needed to monitor that as well.

While I was there my platelets were run and I was told they were low (95,000) so they could not send me home as they needed run more tests and see if they came back up. So they ran more tests and everything (aside from liver and uric acid that were slightly abnormal) came back normal/negative. They ran my platelet's again, and they were even lower at (88,000).

They wanted to keep me tonight but I convinced them to send me home on the condition I'd see my doctor tomorrow and that I'd come back to the hospital tomorrow for another platelet count. I was told that depending on results I could be admitted again. I am freaking out because I am set for a c-section on Friday 13th and at this point can't get an epidural at my hospital due to my platelet count!

Does anyone know how to bring them up or have this happen?? Thanks!

With my first this happened to me but I ended up having hellp syndrome. There was nothing I could do. The only thing is that if you're having a c section and your platelets are too low they will have to put you to sleep cause the risk of bleeding out is much greater because your blood isn't clotting like it should. Good luck and hope it goes up.

Mine were on the low side of normal at my last bloods, I've been worrying about this too. I hope it improves for you. It would be rough to have to go right under for a c-section, but at least you know you're in good hands.

I had low platelets with my first pregnancy but they didn't do anything about it, they just kept an eye on it. I had an emergency csection, with spinal anaesthetic.

Update...

My doctor says because of my other blood work and my high BP it looks like I have pre-eclampsia. The good news is my platelets are now at 101! He was orginally going to deliver her tomorrow, but since I hit 101 he wants to give me time to go back up a little bit so I can do the epi vs GA. I'll be having her on Friday as planned!

I also had low platelets with my first pregnancy. They got to 16,000. I also ended up having HELLP syndrome. It sounds like you also have it. It's just a form of preeclampsia. Usually your platelets will drop and your liver enzymes will be high with high blood pressure.
