I just found out today that I didn't pass the 1-hr test. I got a 136 and my OB said the new guideline was 130. No idea why the guidelines have changed.

Now I'm trying to find time during the work-week when I can get into LabCorp for 3 hours. I can't schedule an appointment, since the earliest is 10am and I am NOT fasting from midnight through 1pm for this BS test! Maybe I'll show up when the doors open at 7 tomorrow and bring a good book with me....

My OB told me to eat high protein/low carbs and sugar 24 hours prior to the 1 hour glucose test. She said that it would potentially skew the results if I were to have anything sugary or eat a lot of carbs the day before, giving a false positive.

She didn't say anything about breakfast, but I ate bacon and eggs a few hours prior to the test. Value came back at 100. If you have GD, then no matter what it's going to show with the glucola drink, I don't see why they wouldn't try to make the amount of false positives less by letting people know how they can avoid false positives.

Like someone else said, might just be a money trap. People are so greedy.

Hmm strange, my doctor/nurse didn't ask me to fast at all or asked me to eat anything specific.

I passed the 1-hr one easily.
My test was at 4 PM, I tried to not eat anything sweet like candies or donuts before that.
I drank milk, ate a cup of yogurt, and ate a banana for breakfast, and then ate stir fry food for lunch.
They didn't tell me the result. I called them a week later wondering about the result. They said they didn't call me because the result was normal.

Oh dear, you poor ladies. In the UK we have a 2 hour test. We have to fast from 9pm and are called into the Assessment Unit from 8.30am to get our bloods done. At the same time the midwife checks our blood sugars at the time, if they're up quite high then theres no need to take the test as chances are you have diabetes. Then we're given like a huge glass of Lucozade (glucose drink) to drink over 10 minutes and 2 hours after that our bloods are taken again. After that we're free to leave and eat eat eat!

And yeah.... baby has a party in there with all the sugar for most the day after that! Haha! xxx

It is truly important to do, even if it is "a waste of time". I didn't want to do the three hour either, but I did. And low and behold I have GD. It's a serious thing that you don't want to just assume you don't have. I eat healthy and didn't think I would have it, but I do. Just bring reading materials or your laptop or something. The three hours isn't that bad.

I failed my 1 hour at 191 after fasting for 12 hours. I took my 3 hour last Monday and actually passed! I felt ok at the end of the test so I went to work, and then had to have my parents come pick me up because I had a reactive hypoglycemia episode- basically my blood sugar dropped too low-- I started sweating, shaking, and had what felt like a panic attack. It was exactly 4 hours after drinking the 100 g of sugar. I felt so exhausted the rest of the day! So you may want to consider taking the day off if that is an option.
Good luck!

I can make an appointment with LabCorp, but the available times aren't until 1pm most days. I figure I'll show-up early tomorrow morning and see if they can fit me in. If not, I'll ask there to be scheduled for a specific morning time or try walking-in next week. I just don't want to have to fast any longer than necessary. I could handle no food but no food or water after midnight is going to be a real pain.

Good luck!

That's how I felt after four hours too, so I did not go to work that day, I called and told them how I felt and they said we weren't busy and to get some rest, this is good advice.
