So, im just about to order a tens machine.. but... Do you need to buy replacement pads? There seem to be loads of pads for sale on eBay.

Any recommendations?

you can hire one from Boots which comes with a new set of pads. think if you buy one it should come with at least one set of pads which will be fine for this pregnancy / birth but you might want to order a new set for next time! Or if you lend it to some one else after.

If you are buying second hand from ebay or somewhere people sometimes give you their used pads too... I bought one with used pads and decided to buy my own. Got the mama tens machine. Pads are £10 for that model - you have to make sure that you get pads for a maternity machine, not the normal pain relief machines... hope that helps! I keep needing to try mine out...x

I was going to say the same as geckorachel. Make sure you buy one for labour rather than general pain relief.x

Ive just had a look on amazon at one (pain relief not labour) and it says

Not suitable for people with pacemakers, heart rhythm problems or for children under the age of 16 years old. Not suitable for use in pregnancy and labour.

I always thought it could be used but just wouldnt actually take any pain away because its a different kind of pain but this appears to suggest its not suitable if you are preggers (or for labour). Ive just checked a few others hun and they all say you must not use them if pregnant or for labour.

Cant you take it back hun??

I think its something to do with the number of pads too, I believe normal ones have 2 pads and maternity ones have 4. Don't think 2 pads is enough to cover the areas targeted in labour. No idea about the safety though bless him for trying though! I still need to try mine out but I'm a bit afraid!!!!!! x

Buy more pads hun. I bought one and they usually come with one set of pads. Well we decided to have this baby, my toddler will be nearly 2 when he is born but now the TENS has been discontinued! Was a nightmare to find replacement pads for it and I ended up paying way over the odds for them on eBay! I could have probably bought another TENS machine for it but wanted to use the same one, it's like my little security blanket coz I thought it was amazing and really helped me! Lol xx
