Brainstorm Ideas - hospital snacks and food for after baby's birth

I've been brainstorming and maybe you ladies can help too. I'm sure you'd also find ideas useful.

Snacks for hospital
- sugarless hard candies

Food for after baby's birth (convenient and healthy, so we won't be eating tv dinners and takeout food every day when things are hectic)
- lowfat muffins
- bread
- apples, pears, bananas
- canned fish
- cheese
- yoghurt
- skim milk
- rice
- breakfast cereal
- meat (throw into the crockpot in the morning)
- raw carrots
- raw cucumbers
- hard boiled eggs

after that hospital food for 2 days... then we ate bad, since we always ate out before then we started cooking again.

this time i will cook a lot with my crockpot, since i have a 2 yr old to feed.

For hospital I'm taking,
2 big bags of haribo
Pack of cereal bars
Some Pringles
Biscuits
Cartons of Ribena
Lucozade

All crap snacks really but I'll need something and I know when I feel crap I won't want anything healthy, dh will be going getting me a McDonald's as soon as I can eat and there is a costa in our hospital so I will keep myself topped up on coffee,
I'm planning to do an online shop for when I get out of hospital with lots of easy and quick meals like pasta, jacket potatoes etc, I know I won't want be cooking much and dh is pretty useless x

The crockpot is the best! It is a godsend when you are busy. By hospital snacks, I mean things to munch on while in the hospital whether in labour, afterwards, whatever. Just things to pack in your hospital bag. For after the baby's birth, I mean when you are at home with the new baby, healing from the birth, busy, sleep deprived. Takeout food in all honesty would probably make me feel like crap so I think its good to plan ahead to have a lot of convenient ideas for things that can be eaten as is, prepared quickly, or can be prepared by a husband that doesn't know how to cook hehe.

my husband will cook the first 2 weeks since he is off. then ill use my crockpot. i use it a lot already. they have awesome easy meals, and you can use frozen meat
my hospital has a restaurant type food schedule, you call order off a menu and get it. last time i gave birth at 9 om, so by 10 when i was stitched up everything was closed even in town. so this time i will think ahead and send my mom to get me something in advance if i go in labor late again...

My hospital sucks in that it just has a set time for breakfast, lunch, and supper and if you miss it, you miss it, too bad. I think they serve supper at 5PM so if you miss that you don't get to eat again until morning! And you don't get to choose what you want, either, they just bring the same set meal to everyone. You just tick off on a list whether you have allergies or dietary restrictions or whatever. Even that they ignore sometimes, as when I was there last they gave me a soup that had mushrooms in it which I clearly stated I was allergic to! May end up sending hubby out for something if I'm hungry, but pack some stuff in my bag just in case (muffins, bananas, those sorts of things).

Our hospital has sandwiches in between meal times. We get all our meals brought to us as well. So for the hospital stay I'm just going to bring granola bars. We also have a pretty big food court in our hospital too.

ETA - afterwards at home I will get OH to cook. He doesn't mind

I'm making some meals up for my 1 year old in advance since i won't fancy anything myself, will save me having to give him oven food all the time lol. Last time i didn't eat anything for ages except cereal bars/sandwiches due to feeding all the time and i expect the same this time. Taking some unhealthy food to the hosp for once i've had him (sweets/crap anything i can get my hands on as i've missed all that so much having GD again)
I think i will do things like bolognaise/veggie curries/chicken curries etc and batch freeze so he has some nice things to eat x

i am planning on making and freezing meals ahead of time for after we get home. also want to stock the pantry well with cereal, crackers, baking supplies, and pasta so that i dont have to do a big shopping trip soon after birth.

for the hospital, i will probably pack a couple protein bars but anything else i want they either have there, or OH can run to the grocery store across the street. last time i just wanted crisp green grapes, yum!
