Bleeding after birth?

Just wondering does the amount you bleed after birth have any relation to how heavy your periods normally are? I have extremley light periods and wondered perhaps I wouldn't bleed as much as others who experience heavy periods.

First pregnancy and I'm clueless any advice/experiences would be really appreciated! TIA

I don't think it has anything to do with that but don't quote me. Your first period may be lighter though

I wouldnt have thought it would make any difference. Some people do get lighter bleeding after the birth but I dont think that has any reflection on periods as its a different kind of bleeding. x

Hi, I had my placenta manually removed so didn't bleed too much. My periods are really heavy but it was no more than this. However........my first period was horrendous, I couldn't leave the house and ended up on tablets to slow the bleeding! I'm not looking forward to that again! Xx

I used to have very heavy periods before kids... My bleeding after birth was way less than I thought it would be with both kids. My first period after Megan was heavier but after that was less than it was before having kids.

I have what is probably considered 'normal' periods... a couple days of quite heavy bleeding and a few days of much lighter. I expected a lot of blood after the birth but i bled heavily for a few days (not really much heavier than my period) and then it was light for a couple of weeks. I imagined it would be gushing out for a really long time so was pleasantly surprised!

My first period after having LO was a lot lighter than normal too, and then it went back to normal.

I asked my sister about this yesterday and she said that hers was about 4 times heavier than a normal period...which terrifies me cause my periods are pretty heavy! I have been really enjoying not having a period since July!

I had a m/c in June and the bleeding then was horrendous, literally in the bathroom every few minutes, so I'm hoping it's not that bad???

Sorry to hear of your m/c

I had one quite a few years ago at 12 weeks and the bleeding was FAR heavier than bleeding after my first son was born (like you say, i was literally having to go to the bathroom every few mins and was soaking through everything!), so i don't think bleeding after childbirth should be anywhere near as bad. Hope that eases your mind a bit
