I called my doctor's office and all they said (same as every time I've called which is why I hate calling, makes me feel ridiculously paranoid) it's all normal after you get examined. I know some spotting/cramping is normal since they can irritate the cervix/uterus but bright red and cramping that gets worse? I don't know.

I'll probably call L&D anyway because I'd rather be safe than sorry and they're more compassionate haha. I just know that on Thursday I was 0cm/thick, had cramping this weekend that I was going to call about but chose not to (as I was probably over-reacting) and all of a sudden I'm 1cm and 50% effaced. Now I've been spotting bright red and having cramping that's getting worse and losing bigger bits of my plug but I shouldn't worry?

My office's belief is not to worry unless you are contracting every 5 minutes for an hour but I really don't think every single person labors (early, false, real-deal) the same.

Honestly if it were me I wouldn't even bother calling in. They can't SEE what you see, and you know your body. If you feel like something is up I would just go in to L&D regardless of what anyone else said - even the OB. I hope you do change your mind and go in to be seen anyways.

And no, everyone labors differently and if you wait until you are contracting 5 minutes apart it may be too late for them to stop it. Thats the dumbest advice ever!

I probably will just to ease my mind. I'm going to eat something to feel a bit more human first, let OH know (he's at work and would have to leave to take me in) and wait for him. It's terrible I don't trust my own doctor's office haha.

my doctor told me i would have some blood after exam. Mine was brown though and very light. only last 3-4 days. I think red blood is not from the exam. That being said, I had some stringy red blood mucus on sunday and nothing has happened yet. I would call if I were you since you also have pain that doesn't go away when you rest.

I know, I know. But my doctor always says to go in if anything like this happens. Its better to be safe, let us know how it goes!

A bit off topic but I love your avatar picture

My own OB tells me at my appointments she'd rather be safe than sorry but she's not in the office this week so my question was ran past her nurse. Will do.

Thanks

My MW said that checks before 37 weeks is ill advised because it can irritate the uterus into contractions etc when it might not be ready to and if they have dates wrong then thats an added complication but I have read how in America it is different to here.

I had an internal at 39+5 and had light pink spotting, streaked mucus stuff for a couple of days and on/off cramping. I had a stretch and sweep done at 40 weeks and nothing much happened but lost my plug the next day and again had brown like streaky mucus [brown being from deoxygenated blood -old/dead blood]. It is normal to have bleeding/cramping after any internal because you are disrupting your insides.

But if in doubt then always phone up or go in and see your MW or Doctor. Hope everything is ok

Thanks.

The only thing that has me concerned is that it's all been bright red and not brown blood.

Which would mean fresh blood. Could be irritated cervix but they should still check you out
