Thanks for all your responses guys... I actually cried last night I wanted a bacon sandwich sooo much... OH woke me up with one this morning bless him! It was so lovely!

I was 126lb pre pregnancy and had previously been 113 for my wedding June last year. I exercised 7 times per week as have very bad IBS and is often the only thing that helps. I love healthy food but I do sometimes have naughty periods where I can eat chocolate everyday for a month! Lol!

I'm sure I'll be fine with weight but because I'm not exercising as much and I am eating more as my usual 1200 calories per day definitely isn't enough but I'm worried I am assuming I'll be ok and then pile on 20lb in a month or something! Lol!

So now I've had brekkie all I can think about is lunch! Oh dear! X

Honey, please don't worry. Your weight gain is minimal. You're doing very well and it sounds like you have healthy habits. You need to eat. There is nothing wrong with a bacon sandwich unless you're eating it for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. If you're constantly thinking of food, perhaps you're not eating enough? 1200 calories is truly the bare minimum of what a woman needs when not pregnant, so I'm not suprised you need a bit more. I suggest some high protein snacks - I love greek yogurt, avocado and almonds. If you're craving chocolate, dark chocolate has some great antioxidants. There's nothing wrong with indulging once in a while as long as you're being smart. Making a baby is hard work and you need the energy!

by 24 weeks, I had only just regained what I had lost. In total I have only gained 17 lbs so far, and will likely end up being up 20 by the end.

In all honesty, if you really want something have it. As long as most of what you are eating is healthy, there is no reason to not have something.

I think as long as you're eating healthily then any weight gain is "normal" I put on more than expected in the 2nd tri but haven't put any on at all in the last 4 weeks. My total weight gain at 35 weeks is 18lbs - I haven't changed my eating habits at all. I don't really snack but I do allow myself small treats.

I exercised regulary before getting pg, and continued to do as much as possible while pregnant. I wore my HRM one day and from that I estimate that I burn up to 3000 calories a day. That's way more than I normally would. Everyone is different. I just eat when I am hungry, mainly healthy food, but junk food sneaks in there every day, too. Remember baby gets all the nutrients and you get the leftovers.

If you're hungry you should eat! But try and make it a healthy choice most of the time. Try to remember that some weight gain during pregancy, other than the baby weight, is totally normal. Your body lays down fat stores to prepare for possible famine during breastfeeding. It's a totally natural process, irrespective of whether you plan to breastfeed or not (evolution hasn't quite caught up with that yet!)

What you eat during pregnancy affects what your baby's body will view as the 'norm'. It's good to eat healthily, with some treats (and a bacon sandwich now and again won't do you any harm!), but you shouldn't ever go hungry for fear of putting on too much weight. Baby's growth will start to drain resources from your body, calcium out of your bones etc. if your intake isn't matching what it needs.

I had gained 10 lbs by the end of 24 weeks. I now have gained 20lbs total, 5 of which I've gained in a little over a week. I've got NO idea what caused the massiive gain.

Weight gain varies but regardless don't deprive yourself of what you crave because you're afraid of it because it will happen anyway by weight of womb, excess blood and placenta and when the baby continues to grow.

I haven't really denied myself anything and don't feel bad about a 12lb weight gain but I just worry about thinking I'm doing ok to give in to cravings and then find I pile the pounds on in third tri... I suppose being healthy 80% of the time will mean I should be ok. Thanks again for the responses
