34 weeks and waters leaking out? Help please

Just woke up about a half hour ago (its nearly 5am Eastern US time) to a sensation that I was peeing myself. Got up and went to bathroom and water seemes to be leaking out pretty steadily - I wouldnt describe it as a 'gush' but more than a trickle. It was thin and clear and watery.

My heart is telling me its my waters. I made a makeshift pad out of toilet paper as I dont have any pads and Im laying down in bed again on a towel. I have no tightenings or cramps or pains or anything, baby is wiggling around like normal.

I called the on call midwife and left a voicemail and am waiting to hear back. In the meantime there's no way I can sleep!!

Have any of you ladies had this experience before? What did the medical providers do/say and what was the outcome - bedrest, meds/injections, induction, natural labor?

Hi there,

I had exactly the same with my daughter. It was my hind waters (still not entirely sure what these are!). It was just a trickle of water. I rang labour ward and they told me to go straight up. Checked and yes, it was my hind waters. I had to be induced the next day for fear of infection. So I would get yourself up to the hospital so they can check for you. Don't leave it without doing anything. Good luck!

Thanks ladies, heard from the midwife and am on my way to the hospital. She told me to shower and 'wash well', said they would do various tests to check if its fluids. If it IS my waters, they'll want to induce.

I asked her about delaying induction and monitoring for signs of infection and seeing whether labor will start on its own, she said its possible but need more info, so we'll see.

Naturally hubby is out of town for military drill (luckily only about 1.5 hours away). Will update once I have more info.

Hi,

I thought I had an increase in discharge at 34 weeks 2 days later it increased so I went to the hospital to get checked out only to be told my waters had been leaking over 3 days, at 10pm I was given antibiotics and the steriod injection and told i'd be assessed at 10am the next day as I wasn't dialting and would need a further steriod injection.

By 1:20am I started contracting and by 6:10am my little girl was born, she was on neonatal for 12 days purely due to being early.

I wish you all the best all will be fine, my little girl will be 6 weeks Tuesday and wasn't actually due until today, she was 4lb11 born and is now 7lb5 so please don't panic.

Best of luck xx

Thanks for the luck and support ladies!

I went to hospital and at first the swab amniotic test was inconclusive and the sonogram showed major pockets of am fluid still in there, so they were going to discharge me but I explained it still felt like it was leaking. They did the swab test again and there was no question - amnio fluid, bleh.

So Ive been here since, they admitted me and the doc (luckily a seemingly low interventionist doc affiliated with my birthing center) agreed to wait another week to induce as long as I stayed in hospital and got IV antibiotics, so I agreed to that.

Now Im hoping either labor starts on its own in the next week so I dont have to be induced, or that baby hangs out another week or so before they attempt induction. Based on a sonogram they estimated baby is around 5lbs.

Still struggling with the idea of not having my lovely birthing center waterbirth, but glad that baby and I are looking good.
