GDT test??? Can they get it wrong??

I have my GDT test on monday, i had one with my son which i passed but when he was born he showed very strong signs of me having it and it being missed as he was born at 36 weeks, weighing 8lb6oz(Very big for gestation!), Low blood sugar, Very sleepy and wouldnt feed, grunting with his breathing and ended up in specail care with jaundice that was so bad he narrowly missed having to have a blood transfusion!
The thing is the docs in special care never once said that it was more than likely GD?? I cant understand that as every symptom he had linked directly to that, i wish i could go and talk to someone about it!!!

So does enyone know if it can be missed the whole way through??
I didnt have eny sugar in my urine or enything it was completely missed!!

I want to do everything possible not to go through thta again this time so in the 3 days before the test would you get a better result if i eat EXTRA healthy for the 3 days before? My diet hasnt been great but im scared its going to get missed again!!!

I don't know if how you eat before the test will make a difference, but I will say that these screening tests tend to be conservative. That is, they are more likely to label some women as having GD when they do not, than they are to label women has not having GD when they do. Given that, they will sometimes miss some cases. It does happen.

Having GD in a previous pregnancy is a risk factor for having it in subsequent pregnancies, but does not guarantee you will have it again. You could be totally fine this time. Talk to your GP/midwife about your concerns that you had it last time and it wasn't picked up, and they will look at your results carefully - if they are borderline, they will likely treat you as if you do have GD. I hope it goes well for you

I have GD, had it last time and it was suspected the time before as well. Back then you were only tested if you had sugar in your urine....not once in any of my pregnancies (this is number 6) have I ever had any sugar in my urine and that's with it being confirmed twice. It wasn't until I was diagnosed with it with DS2 that they even considered that I had had it with DS1....but in hindsight the signs were there.

I'm not sure a healthy diet 3 days before the test will do anything as your tested on how your body is precessing the glucose in the drink they give you.

Its not a fun thing to have at all.....but if you do have it there is a very good support thread in gestational complications.

Thank you!

I will talk it through with my midwife but i couldnt get in with her untill im 30 weeks (was ment to go at 28 weeks!) Im hopeing that given what happend with my son they will be sympothetic I would much rather not have it but if the test comes back clear again im going to worry the hole time again!

I dont supose its worth me following the low gi diet enyway just incase for the rest of my pregnancy???

I cant see how it will do harm to me because its just cutting out unrefined sugar and swapping brown bread, rice, pasta and potatos (which i already have with the rice, pasta and bread!)

From what I can tell, a GD diet is really a healthy one that wouldn't do any of us any harm, whether we have GD or not. I would definately follow that diet if I were concerned but the tests were coming up negative. We really could all do with less sugar and refined carbs. I say go for it!

If ur test comes back negative that you don't have it, I'd might just follow the diet to be just on the safe side.
