Genetics & Baby weight?

Well i was thinking about it a second ago and big babies run in both OH's and my family

OH was 9lb 13oz when he was born and i was around 8lb 7oz, my mums had big babies as my brother was close to being 10lbs and my dad was a big baby too according to my grandma, she also had big children!

And now im pregnant im absolutely terrified of having a massive baby!, so does genetics play a big part in birth weights?. But then i was thinking yesterday that because im on the small side 5'2, ive heard small woman have small babies!.

I dont know what to believe

My husband was almost 11 lbs. and I was 7lbs 13 oz but my baby was 6lbs 6 oz. I don't know if I totally agree with that theory about genetics - wasn't accurate in my case.

BTW - I am 5'5.

I posted a thread about this a month back.. seems that genetics played a big role (and the mother's birthweight) - but, there are always exceptions.

I was 6lbs, 7oz and OH was 7lbs, 6oz (I'm pretty sure) - I have no idea how big or small LO is though.. haven't had a scan since 20 weeks, but I'm measuring perfectly.. so he'll probably be between 6-7lbs.

I'm 5'8" and inherited a good pair of birthing hips.. so even if I had an 8lb+ baby, I'm sure my body could handle it fine.

Well...I don't know much about DH's side of the family as he was adopted. In fact, neither of us know how much he weighed when he was born. Maybe something I should ask his adoptive mother as she might know But I thought I had heard it has more to do with the mother's side of the family, is that not right? If it does, it would make sense. I was about 7 lbs 8 oz when born and all three of my sisters were around that as well as my mother and her siblings lol I guess we will see how big this baby turns out to be but is measuring right on so far so hopefully not too big

No thats nonsence small women do not just have small babies.
i'm 5ft 1in and had a 9lb 4oz baby and this time baby is measuring big
my mum had 11lbs and 13lbs babies and shes 5ft 2in

so thats a load of nonsence your height is nothing to do with the birth weight.
but genetics on the mums size plays a big part ive herd, but just cos your mum had big babies doesnt mean you will. and if you do then try not to worry plenty of peeps have bigger babies just fine.

I was 6.10 and hubby was 6.13 and midwife said to expect a baby in the 6-7lb range. We shall see in 10 weeks though!

My husband was 9.13 when he was born, his whole family was big, his mom was over 11 lbs and now she is super skinny. I on the other hand was like 6.8 and so was my brother. When I got pregnant with my first I just knew I was doomed to have a toddler at birth lol. I'm also 5'2 and my dd ended up being 9.6 at birth. We will see what my little boy will be in a few weeks, good luck!

I've herd the dads genitics doesnt play part in birth weight.
its the mums

would make sence though cos my partner was only 5lbs 5oz at birth (40weeks)
I was a 9lber at birth.

and we have 2 children together (our 2nd and 3rd are the ones we had together) my 2nd was 9lbs 4oz and this little man was 3lbs 4oz at 28weeks and at 32week app yday bump & uterus was measuring 38weeks.
so they dont take that off their dad lol

I'm 5'2" as well, and big babies run in both our families as well. I don't know of they offer growth scans where you are, but we just had one and were surprised to find out she's only in the 27th percentile for size and the midwife said her educated guess is she will only be about 6 1/2 pounds when she's born. I'm surprised she's so small, but pretty relieved as well
