Car seat question

This is for those of you that use a convertible car seat, one of those ones that go from 5 to like 45 pounds. Will you be using any kind of head rest with your newborn? What kind? Me and my OH were looking at those yesterday and there are ones that just use what looks like a rolled up blanket around the head some of them have a full body support and then there is the padding that goes on the belts. Which work best? Do you need them? This is one of the last things on my list for LO...

Our convertible carseat came with an insert for infants. It brings in the head and sides of the seat to make it smaller. We will be using that and if that is still too big, we will be adding rolled up towels... but hopefully little one will fit just fine.

Both our 3-in-1 car seat, and our infant carry carseat, whatever you want to call them. Came with pillows that are ment to support LO's head. I've also seen some of them you can buy at stores..

Maybe check your baby shops.

Personally, I prefer the larger inserts---with our older kids we used rolled up receiving blankets for support. The inserts aren't too expensive and stay put much better than towels or blankets...imho. We purchased one for our infant seat as well.

If it doesn't come with the seat it is not safe to use anything that goes between baby and seat or the straps are supposed to go through. If you need to use something for head support the safest thing is to use rolled up receiving blankets/towels on either side of the head.

here is a quote fromcar-seat.org
"Q52: Can I use an infant head support? Is it OK to put a padded cushion under the child for comfort?

Generally, NO. Unless such items come with the carseat or are recommended by the manufacturer of the carseat as an accessory, do not use them. Aftermarket pads and cushions are not tested with the seat and any compressible material inside the harness may allow for more slack in the restraint. With a small infant, it is usually OK to put a rolled towel or receiving blanket along the sides of the head (outside the harness straps) to keep it upright. You may also put a rolled towel between a small infant and the crotch strap if there is a large gap, though you should never put towels or pads under a child in a carseat."
