Question for you 3rd tri ladies (am currently 21 + 5)

Hello,

I have just come back from me 20 week scan and thankfully no anomalies were detected which is a great relief.

I just have one concern though. Baby's growth was all within the normal parameters, but its abdominal circumference was on the higher side of normal, where as its head and femur sizes both showed as either in the middle or just on the lower side of normal.

The sonographer said everything was ok, but did mention the abdominal size and asked if I am having a GTT (I am at 28 weeks as my BMI is higher than normal).

Obviously I am now worried I have gestational diabetes!! I have had my blood sugar taken at 14 weeks and I have my urine tested each appointment and nothing has been said so far. But I know these things can develop quickly.

Basically, what I am after is a little reassurance - has anyone had their baby's abdominal size to be higher side of normal but not developed gestational diabetes? What signs should I look out for of GD??

I am a worrier by nature and this hasnt helped.

Here are baby's measurements as of today (I am 21 weeks and 5 days pregnant);

Head circumference 189.5mm
Transcereballa Diameter 21.4mm (What is this???)
Abdominal circumference 177mm
Femur Length 37.1mm

Any advice??

Im not sure about the measurements but I thought I had GD. I had excessive thirst and urinating all the time I was panicking so I went to the Day Unit.at my hospital to get checked for it. They did bloods and urine tests and I was fine but I felt better for checking. My advice is to go to your hospitals day unit and explain the situation and say you want to get checked. Also while your there question bubs measurements they should be able to reassure you. Good luck xx

Thanks for both replies.

I guess I wouldnt be worried if all the measurements were on the higher side of average, but it seems out of proportion as the other measures are on average or just below.

I have an OB appointment Weds anyway about something unrelated, so I will ask him then.

Has anyone else have any experiences like mine to share??
