Evening Primrose Oil - "DO NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE PREGNANT" ??

So i've finally got my Evening Primrose Oil, very keen to insert them everywhere recommended

Read the label, as you do.

Great big letters saying "DO NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE PREGNANT".

Anyone know the reason for this? (as so many people take it and no one seems to advise against it, i'd ASSUME this means early pregnancy?)

Paranoid to take it now though xD

Doh lol.. I have read somewhere regarding evening primrose not taking it to early stages of pregnancy, but I think it's generally ok as long as there is no cod liver in it lol

I belieeeeve it's supposed to ripen and soften the cervix and encourage labour (though not induce it).. but apparently it makes things run smoother and easier

And yeahh, the fact that regular EPO isn't supposed to be used till atleast 34 weeks makes me wonder if Cod Liver Oil might be alright this late.
Apparently it's the vitamin A which is the problem - which could apparently cause birth defects?

But i've got no idea if that's just the early days of pregnancy or if it could still be dangerous for bump now

I was taking evening primrose oil in the first few weeks of my pregnancy to regulate my periods. I didn't find out I was pregnant until 7 weeks and felt so guilty as I didn't know whether I should have taken them or not. I had only taken them for about 4 weeks of my pregnancy so I asked my midwife at my first appointment.

She told me not to worry as they are herbal and over the counter so i should be fine. Reading about it online the only reason they are advised not to be taken is because they help to ripen the cervix ready for labour which is why you want to take them right? Some women even said that they were advised to take them throughout their pregnancy Hope this helped x

I think from 34 weeks you can take 1-2 orally, and then from 38 you can use 3-4 and insert them.. in other areas.. if you so desire xD

I'd check online though "evening primrose labour" and there should be a few websites that can advice how many to take and when :O
