CALLING FIRST TIME MUMS: CAN YOU HELP WITH RESEARCH? CHANCE TO WIN A £40 IN MOTHERCARE VOUCHERS
Would you be interested in participating in a study about the experience of intrusive thoughts in first time mums?
“Intrusive thoughts” are thoughts, images or doubts that just pop into your mind and can be about almost anything, usually about things we don’t want to happen. Such thoughts are very common postnatally but for a small number of people they can go along with anxiety. By asking a range of mums in the community about their experiences of intrusive thoughts, this study aims to further understanding of the experience of thoughts in mums who have clinical anxiety problems. This should help us improve treatment for those mums who are having a difficult time.
Who can take part in the study?
We are looking for:
- Women aged over 18
- Who are currently pregnant (coming up to or in their 3rd Trimester) or have recently given birth (in the last six months)
- Are fluent in English
What does taking part involve?
If you decide to take part in the study you will have a brief telephone conversation with the researcher so that we can tell you a bit more about the study and ask you a few brief questions. You will then be asked to complete a questionnaire pack, which will be sent to you in the post with an SAE to return them. All data collected is anonymised and participation is completely confidential. You do not have to go anywhere and you can do the questionnaires in your own time.
On completion of the study you will be entered into a prize draw with a chance of winning £40 worth of vouchers for Mothercare as a small token of our appreciation.
The research study has been approved by the Royal Holloway (University of London) Department of Psychology Ethics Committee.
If you would like more information about the study or would like to participate please contact Roxanne Barrett, Trainee Clinical Psychologist via email: email@example.com or telephone: 07584102469.
