Ask a Mum who had a Breech vaginal birth

Welcome to our weekly Ask a Mum thread

If you are unfamiliar with these threads, the concept is that each week a member is nominated to speak about an issue that relates to them. People may ask them as many questions as they wish, and they will do their best to answer them. The idea is that we all learn about one another, and discuss issues and lifestyles that affect one another.

This week's member is Silver_Penny

Silver_penny had a breech vaginal birth and is happy to answer any questions you may have on the subject!

If you would like to volunteer to be one of our Ask A Mums, then please PM me. (Please do not post in this thread)

You need to include what subjects you would like to talk about, and then when it is your week I will PM you the weekend before. Please note though, that it may take several weeks for it to be your turn. If you have any questions about the Ask A Mum threads, then please PM me.

These threads are for questions for our weekly Mum only.

Well done Silver_penny. I'm not sure what to ask, I dont know what it's like to push a average weight baby either so it must have been pretty bloody awkward! I know my Gran had a breech though!

My brother was breech and my mum told me to have a C-section if it happened to me! So really wondering why you decided to go natural x

hey! my baby was breech and i had a c-section as at my hospital they dont let you give birth vaginally if you baby is breech. were you given the option for a c-section and if so what made up opt for a natural birth? did you have an assisted delivery? xx

My son was actually an undiagnosed breech, and we were planning a home birth. The mw finally discovered he was breech when I reached transistion, so we transfered to the hospital then (I think fighting the contractions in the car was the hardest part about it) By the time we reached the hospital, my little guy was already +3, so he was coming out vaginally, whether the hospital staff liked it or not! Truth be told, if I had to do it all over again, I would have refused the transfer to the hospital. I was planning on going all natural anyhow, so I don't think the baby being breech really made a difference in the pain, iykwim.

Thanks! Apparently wasn't awkward enough, as I'm already pregnant with my second :haha:

The hospital more than likely wouldn't have given me an option of a vaginal birth if I had come in sooner, but I think I would have fought tooth and nail for a vaginal birth anyhow. The delivery was completely unassisted, no episiotomy(I refused it), no forceps, no ventouse. I know... I'm crazy :haha:

What type of breech was he? I have been told that my baby is extended breech, but having another scan on Tuesday so will find out if baby has turned round or not yet.

He was a Frank's breech, both of his feet up next to his head.

How did your LO cope with the Birth, i know you said you did it without assistance but were there any probs at all?
My DS2 Jacob was frank breech for a good chunk of my pregnancy and they were adamant i would have a CS if he didnt turn..but he did (they still scanned me half way through giving birth to check again though they were that paranoid!).
