controversial question? pregnancy and alcohol ill start by saying i do not and have not drank alcohol whilst pregnant. at christmas however i had a very weak wine and soda. i was just wondering on a non biast non judgemental basis what peoples thoughts and feelings were on drinking in pregnancy, im not talking binge drinking or regular as i myself am well against that, im talking the odd glass of wine??? the health giudelines change all the time and i think it can be very confusing to pregnant woman what they can or should be allowed to do. this is purely just a curious thought thread. |
I personally would not risk it but I know some girls on here say you can have a small amount and its fine I never liked any alcohol enough to want it during pregnancy :) |
I had a small glass of wine at Thanksgiving (transplanted American) and the occasional sip of wine/beer from my OH's glass/pint, but usually nothing. The irony is that after baby came last week (see below), I got 'drunk' on 2 large glasses of wine and was sick the next morning, so don't see myself drinking much now that I'm not pregnant! best wishes PS. fidgets mummy -- what a lovely name your little boy has! LOL! |
Personally, I would NEVER drink any amount of alcohol during pregnancy... even a sip. Heck, even my mouthwash is alcohol free :P hehe Honestly, it does upset me when I read about a pregnant woman having the occassional glass of wine/alcohol, BUT that's their choice. There are conflicting views on if a small amount is ok or not. I'm certainly not going to berate someone for doing it though. |
I have half a cider once a week when I go out with hubby on w/e. I think its large amounts causes harm - I know lots of docs and mw that have drank lots more in their pregnancy. |
Sabrina kat, we have good taste, finn is a fab name, my finn too was born by emergency section but at 42 wks as his heart rate disappeared whilst being induced. he was 6lb 12. now hes the ctest most fab little boy ever and totally siuts his cool name. everyone commented on it when he was born, hes really finlay, and thought he siuted it. he was born with loads of hair-hearburn crippled me, and he wouldnt siut another name. my hubby keeps asking if i want a sip of his lager but i think it stinks!!! especially after a few cans on his breath. i had a friend who drank and smoked heavily whilst pregnant, even went clubbing and pulled blokes-yes really, her son was fine, big baby even, but i never agreed with her. |

Even though I never would, I can understand the occassional drink as a lot of women do... but drinking heavily AND smoking and lord knows what else.... UGH :growlmad::nope: |
I wouldn't think badly of a pregnant woman that had a glass of wine or whatever every now and again, but personally I don't intend nor want to drink at all while pregnant, but then I was't interested in drinking before pregnant but that's mainly because alcohol usually makes me feel weird in an unpleasant way. Saying this, I did drink a glass of bailies every day for the 6 days from Christmas day until I got my BFP at 15dpo (I'd been TTC for nearly 14 months and decided I was going to do my best to enjoy Christmas as much as possible and thought a few drinks might help) I don't think a few drinks would do any harm, but personally I'd rather not eat/drink anything that has the potential to have any negative effect. |
Research has not shown how much or how little can effect the baby so it's advised not to even have a sip. If someone told you if you take that pill it'll effect your baby, would you even try taking a bit of it? No. The baby's liver can't function like a grown up's liver. I wouldn't risk it! |
This may sound bad but when I did drink before I got pregnant it was to get a buzz and obviously getting buzzed during pregnancy is not good so I haven't drank at all since finding out. |
