so we are being referred for ivf.....

hey,

as you guys may remember had an appt today with fs. it literally lasted 2 mins.....

she said she wanted us to keep trying as she doesnt think im old enough to cope with ivf emotionally (wtf). we have been trying 3 years, and im 21.

so i said no, i want something to be done, so she has referred us up to ninewells hospital for ivf, they say they are trying not to do iui anymore as it doesnt have much of a success rate in unexplained infertility......

so, mixed emotions really, happy we are going somewhere, but also sad we have to go through all this, you know??

she said we should have an appt within 3 months, and waiting list for ivf is 2 years.

xxx

Good luck with the IVF.... you'll get there in the end. They say good things come to those who wait..... But why do we have to wait so long!

Good on you for standing your ground - what is it with doctors thinking we are something we aren't? How does she know you won't be able to cope emotionally with treatment? IVF is a tough road, but it doesn't get any easier just because you get older. Good luck with your treatment - whenever that happens to be ...

My husband has 3% normal sperm, though the number that the 3% represents is large enough for us to get pregnant. I'm healthy but we still did not get pregnant on our own. I ovulated regularly. Our dr. suggested I go on clomid and do IUI and it worked...I'm now 8 weeks pregnant.

i was just so determined not to get tossed off again because of my age, im fed up of it, i havent ever concieved in 3 years thats a bigger problem than being 21!!!!!

I know what you mean kristy87. Me and DH were told we needed IVF and I just had my first appt last Saturday. I am very happy that something is being done but I still am in total disbelief that it had to come to this...who would've thought.

Me and DH have to do IVF because of his very low sperm count. On my side all is clear. The Dr we saw said I was very young (25 yrs old) and rarely gets girls my age. We explained it was DH's sperm count that was the problem, but not once did he say I was too young to cope with IVF emotionally. He was actually very supportive.

I can't believe a medical professional said that to you. She must not know how emotionally overwhelming it's already been for you TTC for 3 years, she must have never been through it. Sure IVF is not easy, but having some sort of plan gives a sense of direction, rather than to be told to just keep trying!

Glad you didn't take no for an answer. Just cause someone is younger doesn't mean they should be brushed off.

Hey Kristy,
Good to know that at the end they still refer you to have IVF...
just forget about the stupid comment on the IVF... there's nothing to do with young age..

while waiting for the IVF, can you have IUI done?
IUI is a good option to try on while you have to wait 2 years for the IVF, isn't it?

Hi there, it must be very frustrating for you and I don't understand why they won't do IUI first especially since it cost the NHS less money!?

I'm 36 and I have an appt on friday with my consultant who will decide either IUi or IVF. In a way I want IUI cos it's less evasive etc though I don't want to waste my time , if you know what I mean. Some people have also said to me that IUI is a waste of time but then again it works for some.

Good luck to you anyways
