Doc's rant.. (Bit long!)

We've been ttc for 1 year & 7 months now, after a m/c at 9 weeks, baby wasnt planned but we started ttc straight away afterwards, nothing happened until a year & 5 months later, we got our 2nd BFP but ended in a chemical, we've been back & forth to the docs in the past 7 months, my OH has had a sperm test done(good count, morphology & motility wasn't great), but i was suposte to have ovulation bloods done but because of my cycles i didnt get the timing right, but then i got preg with the chemical nearly 3 months ago so the doc said at the time, to come back in 3 months if nothing had happend & she'd referre us, thats the 3rd time shes mentioned getting us referred, so we went to see her 2day, an basically everytime we go & see her, we seem to be asking her the same questions i actually have to keep reminding her that i have been preg twice :S so 2day we still didn't get referred even tho thats what we went for, my OH has to do another sperm test & i've to do ovulation blood tests :S(i've been charting a few months so i kno when to go in now) she then says if nothings happend by the time we get both results back she'll then referre us.

Anyone else had this prob with having to wait & wait to be referred?

On a positive note, your GP want you to get the blood results that the FS would want to have. So in essence, it is better to have it all done for your first appointment so that the FS can make a good assessment then and eventually refer you for other tests that can only be done in hospital rather than awaiting the appointment for him to say that you need to come back when all blood tests are done.

However, you need to find out what the wait is for a first appointment where you are. There is a almost 3 months wait at my local hospital, so I did ask my GP to refer me whilst he was arranging blood tests and I did assure him that I would cancel the appointment if I fell pg in the meantime. I haven't so I'm glad he didn't wait. Maybe you could suggest the same thing?

Sorry to say this but at my hospital they just repeated all of the blood tests the gp had done - that took the fs about 6 months!!! The fs paid very little attention to what the gp had done and when I mentioned the gp tests they couldn't even find them! Personally I would go back to the gp and be very firm and make sure you are referred to the fs. In my experience you just have to push to get anywhere! (Sorry if this sounds negative. I have endo and was told I was fine and to wait on countless occasions! I am now getting excellent treatment on the NHS because I read up on everything, diagnosed myself and persuaded and pushed doctors to listen to me!!!)

This sounds so much like my last few trips to my GP !!!!!
I had to make a list of blood work they SHOULD BE DOING.......
( kind of makes you wonder if they get more money per appointment or something)
I did leave with a promise of a referal.....got home and had a message from the fertility clinic...
Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
finially going to get some help!!!!!!

I'm going to go cruise around LTTTC boards and introduce myself proper.....
Hope you get the proper care you deserve!!!!!!!

I had this with my FS he just repeated everything the GP had done, wasn't interested in my notes from GP or my charts or cycle history that i had made notes on, he was more concerned about my weight and why we wanted children so much. In the end we got refused, but i think its because we let them push around and treat us like school kids, put your foot down with them hun and tell them you feel like your going round in circles, and the earlier they find out whats going on the better they can treat it xxxx good luck

i'm not sure they care about us if you're on the NHS to be honest.... My fs kept asking the same questions over and over again, never even opened my file to prepare in advance. Bloods done by GP- fs didn't repeat as all was normal. Wait for 1st appt and inbetween appointments was about 3months. FS only started paying attention when i said i'm willing to go private - she gave me brochure with various clinics, including hers and ordered all HIV etc test so that she saves us some money when we go private.... Now she's caring and concerned and well prepared....

silly isn't it its not fair, we should get the respect and help wether we are NHS or private. We are thinking of going private just to get the respect tbh, we are treated like school children.

I too have had a bit of horrible experience with f/s. We have been TTC for 19 months- got pg naturally last year but a scan showed a silent m/c. My cycles have been v irregular since coming off the pill in July 08- 33- 92 days. My GP has been great, gave me Clomid for 3 months and referred me to f/s. I saw f/s last week who asked if I had just decided to leave it later in life to try for a child- I am 37, and say that the cut off for IVF where we live is 34 so if we got to that stage we would have to go private. He has told me to go for blood tests (same ones my gP did) and my follow up app is not until end of April. He wasn't interested in any temp charts- said they are an ancient method and unreliable. Also I hate the way the fertility clinic waiting room is the same one where people wait for their scans. Am hoping forn a better experience at my next appt.
