can i get a HSG done privately?

does anyone know if you can get a HSG done privately or if you still need to be referred? my docs are completely useless i had to explain what PCOS was and what the cours e of action is as they had NEVER heard of it???
the hospital have put me on 50mg clomid (which my gp does not agree with as its dangerous stuff that can kill me???) in Nov,Dec and Jan but i only ovulated on the third go as thermal shifts were not signifigant so they upped it too 100mg this cycle, without ever seeing me!! amazing!!
so i after 7 years of trying, we have lost 16 angels consecutively all between 8-12 weeks, i ten week ectopic where lost my tube and then we got caught Dec 2009 after having a HSG in my existing tube, we lost her (along with all our other 17 angels) at 34weeks +3days, 2 weeks before she was due to be delivered by c section. negligence on the hospitals part so now i am not keen to go back there as that doc is the only one that deals with Gynae (i live extremely rural) so does anyone know of anywhere in wales i can go that won't require me to sell a kidney first? i have had 8 cycles since i lost my angel and i have only ovulated with a certainty 2 of those cycles, i temp, use my cbfm and now on clomid and i feel that having this done will flush out my corkscrewed tube again and maybe give me some hope
my doctors don't see that the amount of babies i have lost is anything to worry about???? and that i don't require any more assistance as i have the wonder drug clomid, any advice greatfully received

also you prob need to go to a gynae 1st but im not sure about this
i hope this helps
You have had such a rough time x

Thats terrible. I live in wales and my gp refered me to gyne and i had it done. Can you change gp's hun? I had mine done within 2 months of being refered. You can of course go private but you would be paying for a consultation as well

It was my gp who referred me for an HSG and I had it done less than a month later (albeit a complete farcical ordeal that went very wrong and I now have to go have it done again under the care of a gynae). Your gp can refer you on the nhs and you are within your rights to demand this treatment. I hope you get it sorted one way or another sweetheart xx

yes your gp can refer straight to xray for the HSG but you can't 'demand' one.

I'd do as mentioned above and change your GP. At least you should be having investigations for recurrent miscarriages. Are you on aspirin???? had checks for anti phospholipid syndrome etc???

good luck, hun

ps just read Lilly-Maye's memorial, she is a beautiful angel.

have you seen an endocrinologist about your thyroid problem?

been today to see the doc and she said i have only 2 months left on the clomid and they cannot do anything else for us after that point only IVF and we can't afford that, so gutted, on the plus side i am in tomorrow for a HSG and i got caught straight after last time with LM, so i am hoping that it will work its magick...

Hi hedgwitch, so sorry for what you have been through, I remember seeing your posts about your beautiful daughter.

It might be possible to be referred to a big centre specialising in recurrent miscarriage, e.g. St Mary's in London, on the NHS. Other ladies from this site who have already been tested at their local hospital have done this (or indeed been referred elsewhere) and the waiting times aren't too bad. You will need a helpful GP though! Know the travel would be a nightmare, but they may be able to arrange appointments for days/times when you can get cheap tickets.

Not sure about services in Wales, but it may be worth ringing round some hospitals in the cities to see what private services they offer.

There are also links on the sticky recurrent miscarriage thread in the m/c and loss section of this site to other doctors who test for "natural killer cells", e.g. in Liverpool.

An HSG test wouldn't necessarily "flush out" the tube, think it is a diagnostic test rather than a treatment. I had one privately, but had to see my GP and a gynae first (I had various tests following three miscarriages). The appointment with the gynae cost about £200 and the HSG was £350, it was performed by a specialist doctor (radiologist).

Best wishes.

It is quite common to fall pregnant straight after an HCG. Technically it is diagnostic but it does help to flush out the tubes and can help patency as long as the tubes are not severely blocked with eg, scar tissue or endo.

got caught with LM straight after my last one, well my doc was good enough to get me in for a HSG this morning as the woman who does it is away next week, and there was a blockage, up at the top of the uterus just inside the tube, so i am really lucky that no sperm got through as there is no way the egg would have been able to get through, just like last time, i am a bit sore but gad i went and got it done now, so i am hoping now i may have a fighting chance
